I was heading to a local area where there is a Michaels Craft Store and Party City. So I park my truck - open the drivers door and I hear..gabble gabble. I quickly turn around and (you guessed it) a wild turkey is coming at me talking. This is the biggest wild turkey I have ever seen here on Staten Island. Mind you that this area is only concrete and local stores. No woodland areas or lakes at all. Okay so now I'm thinking should I run (lol) or just ignore this beautiful thing. I decided to walk away quietly. But that didn't stop it from coming after me (lol) I stop and look at it and now it's doing a dance. Spreading it's feathers and turning around. I can't stop laughing. People are passing by asking me "who's my friend" but this turkey is ignoring everyone else, except me. Anyway, it followed me to Party City and waited at the front entrance (no kidding). I took pictures of him on my cell phone to show my family. I came out of the store and it's just staring at me. I decided to call our WildLife Rescue Team out here and they wouldn't do anything for me. Now it's at least 1 hour later and I feel bad to leave this pretty turkey. So I decided to walk back to my truck and there he is following me again. I ran into my truck, opened my door and turned on the ignition and as I was driving away, this poor thing just should there watching me leave. I feel soooo bad but what was I suppose to do LOL.

I'd love to see that picture. That turkey must have been lost. Hopefully, the Wildlife Rescue Team picked it up.

We have alot of wild turkeys, and deer by the hospital. It is a catholic hospital and all the nuns that live there feed them. They rend to get too close to the highway and get hit alot though.

I went back later in the evening with my husband to check on the turkey, but he wasn't there. So hopefully he found his way back from where he came from or the Wildlife Rescue Team came out to get him. If I had some type of huge cage or even a box to put that beautiful turkey in I would have taken him to the Wildlife Team myself. I guess I need to carry things like that in my truck. That turkey truely made my day, just love nature, critters, animals (on and on and on)

What a great story. I know you went back to check and he wasn't there...but are you're sure he didn't grab on to the bottom of your vehicle and hop a ride to your place? ;) Sounds like he REALLY liked you!

Wild turkeys are permanent "fixtures" on the eastern plains of Colo...Hugo has a bunch who strut around town ,from one end to the other...and so does Kit Carson...the locals just watch out for them, but construction started and some drivers are not as careful as the locals...but I do love to watch them...the only things is ...they can leave lots of lil "presents" everwhere they strut!! lol so there ya go!! Blessings..
