Who here has a kindle?

What kind do you have, and what do you use it for? What do you like about it, what are your favorite things to do with it, etc.

Hi Amy,
I do not have a Kindle so cant help you specifically with that, but I did get a NOOK tablet for Christmas. I have read several books on it, but honestly have not had the "time" yet to explore all that it can do, although what I have seen so far I do LOVE.
We got my DD one for Christmas too, and she is definately reading more than usual with it. Her English teacher even allows them to bring them to school for independant reading time, so it comes in very handy!
Good luck with whatever you decide- I think they are great, even though initially I was reluctant to switch to "digital" books.
Hugs,

~Laurie

The reason I asked it we got two kindle fires last week. (Long story). I absolutely adore mine! There is a ton of stuff you can do on it that I don't even understand yet...and I'm still amazed at how fluid the switch was to digital books, even thought I was initially against it (like you). I can't believe the books I've read in the past week...and I keep wondering why I wouldn't have read them if they were on paper? Some things we just can't explain.

The kindle fire has so many different apps the kids can use for school...Colton downloaded an interactive periodic table of elements thing that he uses all the time. :)

Cool! Yes, there are so very many things that you can do with these "tablets". I have yet to explore mine much, mainly for lack of time. I initially wanted it so that I could get rid of the "hard copy" magazine subscriptions that I get, and just read them on the Nook.
Someday soon I hope to really explore it and learn all of the cool things I can do with it, since I know I have barely scratched the surface of its capabilities!
Enjoy your Kindle Fires!!
HUgs,

My family just gave me a Kindle Fire for Mother's Day. I am still learning. I have been reading some of the free books. I can't believe how many are free! I also need to learn how to use it with the digital books from the library. My children are a good resource for me, they know so much about these kinds of things than I do.

I had a kindle with the keyboard and then I got a Kindle fire a few months back. I sold my old kindle to my brother for $50 and there was a special at Walmart when I bought my Fire--I received a $50 gift card. So it only cost me $99. Anyway I love mine for novels and some books but there are still books I buy in hard form. Over time I might go to more on kindle. It took me awhile to learn how to use all the different things on the Fire but I love it all.

I love my kindle fire. It goes everywhere with me. I read and play games on it. But with the wifi.....we take it traveling insted of the computer and if we need directions we can just mapquest on the kindle. I have read TONS of books since Christmas. I am also figuring out how to download music onto it, so I can use it at the gym for my workouts.

We bought a kindle fire and I love it. NOt only do I download books to read but have games, weather, mapquest, internet access, music and pictures as well as other apps on it, I just added one where you can hunt for recipes for dinner, etc. I like the size, color screen and the portability, I take it in the car and to work with me. Love it

Ric bought me an iPad when he started his new job and...yep, I am addicted! I have quite a few books on here, several apps to follow the news, things to brush up on my French, tons of recipes and free patterns...in fact, I am on it right now!

I to have a Kindle Fire,,
the negatives for me are...it's hard for me to read. I need my reading glasses & a large magnafier....if I enlarge the print it takes up to much of the page....
the 2nd issue I have is my wrist starts to hurt after holding it... I saw pads that have a tray to set your KF in so you don't have to hold it.

the positive is it is fast, and portable and I can take it anywhere there is internet service.

I still have not figured out all it's functions.... where is a teenager when you need one! lol!

p.s.... 'princesspatch" check out 'Pandora' on your KF great for music....

Since I teach instructional technology to faculty and students, I have to admit I'm a bit of a gadget hound! I have a Kindle Fire, the third generation Kindle (with the e-ink technology, which is my favorite reading device) and an iPad. Kindle Fire is great, IF you have good access to a wireless network. The old, 3rd generation Kindle is my workhouse for nightime reading---anything that's not heavy on the graphics (like a good murder mystery!) works well in this environment. The iPad gives you a lot of flexibility for other activities besides reading.

A couple of good sources for ebooks....check out your local library. Many public libraries provide ebooks through Overdrive, which you can download and read for free as a member of the library. My favorite blog is one called Books on the Knob---there are a LOT of ebooks that you can pick up free or for a very low cost. (http://blog.booksontheknob.org/)

Of course, I moved this past week...and packed a good 100 boxes of books (and they're not all packed yet). So I still have a few print titles around!

I have an Kindle Fire and love it. Its great not having to carry a book around with me all the time. My kindle easily slips into my purse so I can easily pull it out anytime I get stuck waiting in line etc. Love the library borrow function. Since the screen is not an LCD screen it is better for my eyes, downside is I have to be near a light. I am thinking of trying to find a light that will plug into the usb port. (aka Gameboy light)
What I love is the ability to have the bible loaded on it so when I am in services at church, or discussing scripture and want to look up a scripture that was just quoted I can bookmark it and save it for later.
I made a stand up cover for it so I don't always have to hold it and can stand it up on my desktop during lunch break.

My daughter has a Kindle and loves it. I was given a Nook when my Mother updated to a Nook Color. My daughter has cookbooks, non-fiction books and classics on hers. I have classics and some fun childrens books on mine. I haven't ventured into getting magazines on them. I'm a bit jealous of my mom, she is able to play Angry Birds on her Nook. So much fun! It's probably good I don't have that game on mine because I would waste too much time playing it!
