Hi, everyone...just thought I'd let y'all know I'm getting married! My wonderful man asked me Wednesday night if I would marry him, and I said yes....and then yes...and then yes again. :) We've been together for about 9 months now and I knew it was coming, but not when it did! He totally surprised me! I have the most gorgeous ring I've ever seen...he picked it out and he couldn't have done better!

We haven't set a date yet, but it won't be a very long engagement. He is finishing up work on our house (he bought the house in February) and we'll get married as soon as we can move in. We are both so very happy and excited! Both of our families are excited as well, and I have the greatest future in-laws!

I can't get my pictures to load right, but here's a link to the announcement on my blog, and there are pictures there.

Well, Kayla, that's absolutely wonderful news!!! I'm so very happy for you and I bet your mom is just over the moon, and will probably help you with your dress, no doubt. I can't wait to see pictures of the preparation and of the nuptials, I can imagine it will be a day filled with love, celebration and plenty of music!!!! Many congratulations!

Thanks so much everyone! Marianne, I'm not sure about the wedding band...he picked out the ring all by himself so I don't know. He did such a good job!!! It's funny, really, because a few months ago, I wanted him to know that I didn't really care about a fancy ring, and didn't want him to stress about spending a lot of money on me, and I ended up embarrassing myself to death, because I brought up engagement rings. I had shown him a picture of a ring I liked on Etsy. This one is nothing like it, and I absolutely love it a million times more than any ring I've ever seen! And I guess I just didn't know what I was talking about when I told him I didn't really care if it was diamond or not... ;) He is so proud of the ring...it's white gold and diamond. He kept saying "here, let me see it again" even though it had been sitting on his dresser for 2 weeks and he'd looked at it 50 times, he said. It's different on my left hand, though!!!

Mom is excited, and we're both already going crazy with plans. We're still trying to pin down a date. It won't be anything too fancy, but just between both of our families I think we'll be looking at 100 people, probably.

I'm not making my dress...I had considered it, and I've made a couple fancy dresses in the past, but I'm just not comfortable tackling that right now. I have a friend who is an excellent seamstress, but she's busy making her own wedding dress right now and I wouldn't want to bug her too bad! I've been looking online at dresses for the past few weeks, and two days after I got engaged (so, Friday) I found a dress I really liked for sale by an individual, through Craigslist. The ad said the dress was $200 and if you wanted the veil as well it would be $325. I called to get pictures of the veil, and the lady ended up saying if I wanted the dress, she'd throw the veil in for free. WOW! I asked her to get a shipping quote, and by Friday afternoon, I'd paid her and she sent the dress, for a total of $213! I'm pretty excited about that...for that price I can still get it altered if I need to. I can't wait for it to get here...should just be a couple more days. For that price, I couldn't justify making my own!

I've always wanted to get married outside, but we're looking at late Summer so it's going to be hot...so it looks like it'll move inside. I've already hit a couple snags...like the musicians I'd love to have can't come, that kind of thing...but I'm trying to focus on what's really important! I do want to make sure I get a good photographer...that's what's going to last. In the long run, we'll be married and I don't want to get so stressed out over tiny details that I lose sight of that!

You've got the most important things in mind, Kayla--as my husband so nicely put it when we got engaged and all the planning seemed to overwhelm us, "I don't want a really big wedding, I want a really big marriage!" You've both got the right idea.

We got married on the 4th of August, at noon. It was bright and sunny, but it wasn't too terrible outside, and then the reception was indoors, so it was cool there. We only had about 75 people and that was perfect. Can't wait to see pictures of the dress--what a deal!

You'll always love your ring--my sil has already "upped" her 1 karat platinum ring (for their 10th anniversary) and I wouldn't change my little .25 carat in a 1930's setting if you paid me to. This ring means the world to me--we still don't have much money, but we were TOTALLY poor when we got engaged and it meant the world to me that he had socked away money each week to buy me a ring.

Yes, do get a good photographer--100 years from now, your Great Great Grandchildren will find your wedding pictures, and you want to make sure to have those memories.

You know, that's the weekend I was originally looking at! August 4th...but that was just 5 weeks and Jake wanted more time for the house. As it is, we're already closing off a couple rooms and focusing on what we have to get done to live in it!

We'd like to save a little money for the honeymoon, too...we're undecided as of right now, but we're playing with the idea of a no-plan road trip...just drive until we feel like stopping. We both like to travel, and the no pressure aspect of that sounds amazing. We're still not sure...he has friends who own a house in Germany, and that sounds out of this world...but the expense to get there would be crazy I guess. I saw a neat idea on Pinterest the other day...you set out a jar labeled "honeymoon fund" at the wedding...everyone throws in a dollar or two! That adds up!

That's a coincidence! We chose the 4th of August becuase his birthday is the 3rd, and he thought it would be easy to remember our anniversary that way :)

I love the idea of a no-plan road trip AND the honeymoon jar. We used our money for a trip, but it was well after the wedding because we were both tied up with work. There are SO many places to go and see in our beautiful state, and Indiana and Tennessee all within a few hours distance. Yes, a house in Germany would be super cool, but maybe that could be your 5 year anniversary trip :)
