(Photo of blanket chest at auction site---Just so you know my house does NOT look like that! LOL)

I've been waiting and waiting to get at my oak spoon carved blanket chest for weeks and finally today, I was able to get started. The top was removed and placed outside and the work began...Lovely golden quartersawn oak underneath only a couple of coats of ugly forest green paint!

Oh and thank you ladies for all the good advice about removing the moth ball smell-It WORKED! No more wicked moth ball stink...

I'll post photos when the project is complete-

Oh Mel, what a beautiful trunk. It is pretty now but I'll bet it will be gorgeous when you are done with it. Joey

Joey...It is HUGE and HEAVY almost as long as I am tall!I love spoon carving and I had to bid beyond what I wanted to much to my DH's dismay! I heard him whisper under his breath "Okay, Mel, that's enough." But, I ignored him and went about 50.00 higher than I wanted to! I have never owned a blanket chest or cedar chest and I figure I can hand this down to one of my girls-I found two more "chests" just this past week at a place I frequent on a regular basis and they are priced extremely low, but again both of them are pretty STINKY! So I am saving my pennies for one of those. I want to re-paint the second one and do some Swedish Rosmaling.

Do you ever get those "spurts" of creativity when you just can't help yourself? This is long overdue for me. I used to "strip" pretty regularly! I've done buffets, dry sinks, oak refrigerator boxes etc. I seem to have caught the bug again....
