Hi Girls . . . I have been thinking a lot about being domestic and what that means to our family. Recently I did a little research on Betty Crocker and what she represented and it really challenged me to bless my family in all I do. I thought it was funny that Aunt Ruthie posted the "Homemakers Creed" on facebook . . . I included that in my blog as it came from Betty Crocker. Great minds think alike, I guess!

So come take a peek . . . tell me what things you are doing to bless your family!

I really enjoyed reading the history of Betty Crocker and the Home Legion of America. I've had several Betty Crocker cookbooks over the years and they are all well-worn. Your post reminds me that my first and primary ministry is to my family. The kids have left home, the grandkids are all old enough to fend for themselves, but my dear mate is still here and still needs to be nurtured and loved. What better way than to provide him with a clean, peaceful, enjoyable home and good cookin'.

Wow, I didn't know much about Betty Crocker so this was wonderful! And I even felt alittle sad when you wrote about your hometown group ending. I'd love to have a group of women like that to learn from.

Thanks girls! : ) I agree, Melina . . . regardless of whether there are kids in the house or not, blessing your sweet husband is so important! And, Shanda, I so agree . . . I really wish these old homemaker's clubs were still around. I know there are some of the farmgirl chapters that are doing very similar to that. It is just finding the women willing to take the time to do this . . . if more did think of the blessings we could pass on to one another!

Hugs & Blessings,

Brenda

Love it, Brenda!
There were, and still are on some level, homemaker clubs around here. They call them "Friendship" clubs. They were REALLY active and busy when I was growing up. They were named after the rural community . . ours was "Mildred Friendship Club". I went to "Mildred School" . . a two-room rural school, rode my horse, took my lunch in a metal box . . you know, that "old-timey" routine.

Anyway, these ladies met once a month, did quilting and all kinds of other projects, sent cards and or flowers to folks in the community for all purposes, made quilts for fire victims, etc. They had minimal membership dues so they could afford to buy things like their cards, flowers and whatever they needed. They were busy and contributed in a huge way to the community.

Kids went to the gatherings too and after I married and moved back here with 2 young kiddos we went too! We were also the fortunate recipients of quilts from 3 different clubs at the time of our house fire in July 1994. These quilts are my favorites!!
These "clubs" aren't what they used to be but some of them do still have some things going on.

Loved your blog!
