and out pops this hurt hawk onto the open grass area between our fruit trees and creek/woods.

It appears to have a broken wing, and we called for a wildlife volunteer to come pick it up. The problem is that she wants us to put a laundry basket over it. Ha! Are you kidding me? I said to myself.

We are babysitting, and wondering if we sould lure him from the tree line with food. Once he gets in the trees, they can't get him.

Oh wow! I love hawks. Yes....I wonder how a person is supposed to put a laundry basket over a hawk! I would think approaching it would scare it off and who knows if it would be aggressive towards you. Hope they get there soon so he can be taken care of! Let us know what happens!

Oh, I hope they got him and are healing him back to being healthy. Poor bird.

Unfortunately, he was between us and the tree line near the ditch behind it. He walked into the trees right before the volunteers arrived. I continued to work in the garden, but could hear the hawk cry for help. He/she didn't have much energy when we saw it, but got lost in the trees. So bummed, but we will call them again if we see it again.

Poor hawk. I wish they knew that we only want to help them. I hope you can catch it soon.

Kristina- what a beautiful hawk (well that is when our chickens are not out free ranging).
I am sorry to hear that the rescue team couldnt get to it, but hopefully it will stick close and you will be able to help it tomorrow.
Hugs,

next chance throw a light weight blanket or sheet over him , then the basket, and then slowly pull out blanket/sheet, I have done this with injured great horned owls, and a golden eagle...

That's a great idea Tina! Thanks. I'll be watching out for him/her again today. We do free range our chickens, but have not let them out for now (until we know it's a bit safer).
