I've been asked to demonstrate spinning at the Wolcott Mill Farm Park during their harvest and corn festival later this month. They asked me to also schedule an hour-long demo "fun with wool" and I was thinking of doing dyeing with jacquard acid dyes, because the colors are so pretty and fairly permanent, and the process goes pretty fast using the microwave to set the colors.
Now I am having doubts. This is a setting where kids and the general public are going to be attending. If I ask anyone to help me and they get dye on their clothes, that could be a problem. If someone inhales some of the powder, that could be a problem. So I am wondering if maybe I should just go with KoolAid dyeing, like everyone else does... The colors from KoolAid are pretty pastels.
Alternatively, I could go harvest some goldenrod from the field behind my house and try natural dyeing, but it takes a while to cook up the dyestuff. It would, however, be completely safe (unless someone is allergic)
The deadline is coming up fast so I guess I'd better hurry up and make a decision!
