Just got in the car to take a spin for an ice-cream cone with DH and our HUGE welded cup-holder/tray was missing as well as the car keys...Searching high and low to no avail-Can't find the 2nd set of keys and so now I am without a car and keys...
I can't believe that someone would actually go into my crappy little car steal a 20-pound piece of metal car cupholder (DH is a welder) and leave me high and dry! Prank? Oh...and the sunblock, lipstick and gum were placed ever so nicely on the floor mat on the passenger side.... What is wrong with people in this dinky little town?
I am so ready to scream right now you have no idea...
No...the car was unlocked-Never lock my car unless I have it parked at the store etc. but not in the driveway and who on earth would want that darn old cupholder? AND my keys? (No house key on that-Thank goodness)
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr-

Be careful they may come back for the car. I have had that happen to me before, it is very aggravating.

| DH disabled the car for now until we can get different keys hopefully tomorrow-Is it possible to change the locks on the door-DH said something about a chip in the key itself... It's a pretty old car-not the prettiest, but it's mine and I would sure hate for someone to come back a steal it. What is wrong with people? We think they wanted the change in the cupholder and didn't want to sit there and scoop up loose quarters-I have a feeling it was a prank. The keys are automatically "dropped" into the cup holder cause it buzzes like the dickens when you exit the car. I never lock it unless we are grocery shopping or out of town, but never when it is right outside the kitchen door. Sigh....I hope they got a hernia lifting that thing out of the car-serve 'em right! |

I'm so sorry, Melody! I know EXACTLY how that feels. We've had our house burglarized twice while we lived in Phoenix and that just was so unsettling! And, just 3 years ago, my car was broken into (both back vent windows busted out. . . the MOST expensive to replace!) while it was in airport parking in Phoenix while my daughter and I were in Charlotte, NC for a breast cancer event. It's just a violation of huge magnitude. As Lesley, says . . I'd be watchful so they don't come for the car. My goodness! Hang in there! CJ

Aw man, that is terrible. I hope you can locate the extra set. I would be especially upset about missing out on ice cream. Hope it all straightens out for you. Marianne |

They probably took the cupholder to scrap it for cash at a metal recycler. Houses are getting broken into and the copper piping is getting stripped out for scrap- it's crazy! I am so sorry they broke into your car. That's horrible. I hope you are able to get the car re-keyed!

Melody so sorry this has happened to you . Wish people would stay on their own property . I had all my jewelry stolen about 8 years ago . It was heart breaking for me . I did not have alot of jewelry but the pieces i had was very sentimental to me. The person or the pieces were never found . I remember i went to every pawn shop around and cried for days. It is not a good feeling . Hope all turns out well for you.

DH found the coin/cup tray under a tree in the neighbors yard, but no keys. Took 1/2 day off of work and just now getting in. The key that the dealer made for him to replace the stolen keys did NOT work so now we have to have the car TOWED and have a new ignition put in but not until next week. I could just spit I'm so mad.
When I talked to the neighbor lady where DH found the coin/cup tray she mentioned that just two weeks ago someone broke into her daughters car and stole all of the loose change...that's what we think happened to us. If they wanted the car they had the keys and could have just taken it then and there...I feel just sick knowing someone was sitting in my car and scrounging for change-What a world. Oh neighbor lady also mentioned she has a girlfriend who works in our local ER and told her that on an average evening any day of the week 5-6 people come in who are in the stages of overdosing-The addicts are stealing change. It's the drugs in this community-Makes me very very sad that someone is willing to risk getting caught stealing a few measly quarters so they can get their fix.

No neighborhood watch in our little neighborhood-Do you think it works? I was thinking more along the lines of an electric fence and a couple of German shepards stationed strategically around the perimeter of my house! Too much??
It was NOT like this when we bought our home 19 years ago. I can't count how many times in the past we have had bikes stolen-every single year, stereo out of my sons car, a little antique dry sink, etc. etc. etc. And a few years ago VANDALISM to our garage. I would love to stay up and do my own little "stake-out" but I am just a little old lady. The thing is there must not be too much to lose when someone steals something. I mean how much time can someone serve for stealing a few bucks in change? It is going to cost us at least $400.00 to get a new starter, have the car towed, and not counting getting NEW car locks-apparently you have to remove the doors to do that- plus the time DH lost by taking an afternoon off to try to get the keys replaced. I am sooooo stressed right now. Everytime, I hear someone walk down the sidewalk I find myself jumping up and seeing who is out there. Isn't that terrible? DH disabled the car again tonight so if "they" decide to return to the scene of the crime and try to take the car they won't be able to.
I want to thank all my farm girl sisters for showing such empathy and sympathy regarding my continuing saga! You are so comforting to me....

It's awful when something like that happens. A couple years ago, a neighbor saw two teenage boys sitting in my car at night (parked in the driveway). she called the police and they caught one of them. Nothing was takenm but it was a freaky feeling knowing that someone else had been in my car. I have a security system that i got after a friend of mine was killed in her home (she lived in a different part of town, but you just never know). Sorry you had to go through this. Some people are so desperate for money they'll do anything. Cindy

Oh Melody, I have been off the farm this week and am just reading and catching up. I am so sorry to read about this. It really is sad what this world is coming to. I hope that you can find a cheaper way to change out your car keys. Its like adding salt to an open wound, when not only did they steal from you but now its gonna cost YOU alot of money to protect yourself! Ugh. Godd luck with everything! Hugs,

Me, too, Melody - Just like Laurie, I've been away - but for more than a week. I'm so sorry this has happened. Frustrating and disconcerting to say the least. I would not only be careful that they would try to come back for the car, but also that nobody is in the car waiting for you, if you know what I mean. Just be careful. I'm praying for you!
