Hi Ladies. I got home this afternoon and found this message on my business email, supposedly from a fellow Farmgirl. Did anyone else get it or has someone coopted her email? It read:

"I hope you get this on time, i know you might not believe this but i want you to
know this is for real and i need your urgent assistance and i hope you will not let
me down. I don't really mean to inconvenience you right now. This had to come in a
hurry and it has left me in a devastating state, I made a trip to London.
Unfortunately for me i was mugged on my way back to the hotel where i lodged along
with my cell phone, my credit card and since then i have been without money. At the
moment my passport has been seized by the hotel management pending the time payment
is made. So i have limited access to emails for now. I urgently need your financial
assistance. I need about 2,050 British pound sterling or any amount you can lend me
to sort-out the bills, so i can make arrangements and return back. I'm in a panic
now. I know this may sound odd but it all happened very fast. I have no access to my
account. I've been to the embassy and the Police here they're not helping issues at
all. Please, can you lend me some funds? I'll be willing to pay you as soon as I get
home. I have nothing left on me right now and I am lucky to have my life.

Please respond as soon as you get this message."

I am not sure how to take this or what to do.

This is a scam. this is also why you should NEVER put yours or anybody else's personal info on this forum. I see people putting their private emails, addresses and phone numbers or put someone elses--this is not a private chat room, ladies...anybody can read this

Glenda, I got it from a farm girl whose computer must have been hacked. None of my personal info is on Mary Jane's site. It's just that at one time, I had sent this FG a little gift and she me and so we had exchanged email addresses privately. This was on my business address. Poor her. I think that she is gonna have a real bugger of a time getting her computer fixed.

Put me in the skeptical catagory, too. Anything can be found on the internet. I've read where scammers use personal/business emails to come across as friends who are in a tight, and us being nice folk, want to help the poor soul. It's always a little off-balance, like we don't quite KNOW who this person is, but it seems so familiar, that we fall for helping with money...and never see it again.

Just the sound/tone of the email sounds scammy to me. Sounds like someone who was brought up british. Like using the word "lodging" and 'time payment'. 2050GBP is $3204.14. That's a lot of moolah...

Yes, it is a scam. I got the same message from a third cousin who lives in Wisconsin and it was sent to everyone in his e-mail address book. He really does travel to obscure places in the world with doctors without borders and other causes with orphanages in Tibet, so it seemed real, but I called his home and so did most others who received it and it was truly a scam. He had to call all his contacts quickly as possible and was horrified at how many people received the e-mail from his hacked e-mail address book.

Her computer might not even be hacked, it might just be that the hackers are "spoofing" using her email address. This happens a lot on AOL accounts for some reason. Both my daughter and a friend were up-to-date on virus software on their PC's but someone was using their email address to send out advertisements for Viagra...

Hi Brenda,
But then how does it go to all the e-mail addresses in the e-mail address book if they are spoofing? We had someone we knew whose e-mail was sending us viagra e-mails, but it was using her entire address book to send it out to those people.

I am having trouble with one of my yahoo emails too. Fortunately, it's not a big deal. Only an email addy to get info on things which interest me. I've changed all important addy's to other accounts.

Like Mary Beth said, if you get something from me, wanting money, it's not me. However, if you'd like to send money anyway, I'm here!! :-) HA!

This is common on Yahoo accounts. It's called "hijacking." I think it's [retty random, and certainly not the fault of the person whose account was hijacked. This happened to me one time. Apparently the "fix" or preventive medicine is to change your password.

Oh, good grief. Now my hotmail account is flat brimming with spam email. Wonder where they learned of it?? I don't use it for anything except correspondence. Super-duper annoying.

I just figgered out why my hotmail email is suddenly crammed with spam. I've had quite a few new follows and repins on Pinterest. I haven't posted anything there for quite a while, so, that must be where they are coming.

This is a big scam and I have heard of a lot of these lately and some of the people have lost a lot or money with this.Be really careful and alert...

Sisters, always check snopes.com when you receive something odd like this. Nine times out of ten, they'll have it listed.
