My Dad had witnessed it-Lightning acted like she was being strangled,as he put it,and she tumbled off onto the floor flailing and passed out momentarily. We took her to the vet on an emergency visit,and of all things she's been diagnosed with asthma. Her wicker bed was all tumbled. All it once it dawned on us that we'd seen the bed like that a couple of time & always assumed that the two cats got into a fight. Her previous times had to be when we were both asleep in the middle of the night. She'll be on a steriod pill for now & then progress to an inhaler 2x a day. The bill was over $600. Egad. In two weeks they want to do further bloodwork as they're concerned with her kidneys,which I was expecting as she's 13 or so. Good thoughts & prayers appreciated. This is so out of the blue. We had no idea.

I experienced a cat seizure with Professor Pumpking the week before I had him put to sleep (about a month ago). It's very scary--he seemed like he was choking and made all these eratic movements and then, slowly, came back to himself, but almost seemed totally stunned. Then he almost seemed to "rebound" for a few days time. I hope Lightning is alright, though--I know it's scary.

Sherrie, so sorry to hear that about your cat Lighting. It is scary to see since I had witnessed it with my very old cat many, many years ago. I know that cats can get allergies but never heard of asthma. Pets are part of the family. My best thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Thank you ladies for the good thoughts! To be honest,I was expecting the worst out of the vets visit. Wondering how she'll do on steroids & such-she's doing much better-not back to herself totally,which is understandable. Vet thought the sudden heat wave we're in might have helped bring this on. No more scented stuff in the house-and they had me hide the catnip mouse.

That had to have been very scary. I never would have thought that asthma would cause a seizure. How does an inhaler work with a cat? I will be saying little kitty prayers for lightning.

Oh Sherrie, I am sorry to hear. It's hard when they get older. My Muffin is 15 and Badger is close to 20. Muffin is on medication, and we thought she was done for a couple of times the last year. But, she bounced back and on her pill she is in pretty good shape. Big hugs, and keep us posted.

Vet called yesterday to see how Lightning is doing,which made me feel better. A prescription has been filled for an inhaler med that's for extreme emergencies-ie if she has another major asthma attack. She's on prednisone for the next 2 weeks,tapering the dose down as we go,then she'll be on the "regular" inhaler med for life. There's a device with a tiny mask that goes over her muzzle and I'm starting to get her familiar with it-it'll be used when I administer the asthma med. It was originally made for babies and vets found it's perfect for cats. Been staying at home till I know she is stable. Her breathing certainly has changed with the meds-slower & deeper. Thanking you all for your prayers & good thoughts. Really rattled me,I'll tell you.

So glad you found the answer Sherrie, but sheesh so many small animal vets are such a ripoff! One can take a horse to the vet for a problem like that and it probably wouldn't be more than 200 meds included. Ridiculous! and they always try to guilt people about stuff to. So many of them are skilled at holding people as emotional hostages.

Lightning is continuing to do well tho we're all sweltering in this heat. She's on her Predisone for the next week or so. Making sure the water bowl is full. I know vets are pricey....esp in Ca! Hoping to move to NM in a few years. (that came to mind as one of you lives in NM!)
