Hi everyone
ok, I LOVE nature, I love being barefoot in the yard, I love everything outdoors, I love going 80 mph on a Harley, BUT, I HATE bugs!!
we have a cricket issue, every morning we have crickets in the kitchen. whenever i see a spider i call my husband. a tree guy just came yesterday to kill a HUGE nest of white faced hornets....just thinking about it is freaking me out, and the guy felt the need to bring me a dead hornet just to show me how big and ugly they are.
last year it was the ant issue....soon the mice will be back. spiders in the bathrooms, ugh
I just bought 6 of those plug in 'keep the bugs away' thingys. yet i still see spiders & crickets. i figured if i plugged them in all around the house i'd create a force field of protection,LOL it's not working.
at some point of my life i'm going to put up a wall tent....and i'm sure keeping the bugs out will be impossible.
whether it's camping or in the house, how do you all deal with bugs?
i feel like i have the creepy crawlies now.....eeeeewwwwwww

Bugs, such a necessary evil. Don't like them too much, but I'm not as bothered as you. The mice issue is bigger for me. Luckily, we don't have them in the house EVER.
I don't know what to tell ya ... Marianne |

Sad to say those plug in thingys are just a waste of time and $$
I'd do a careful inspection of door frames and window seals and caulk any holes or gaps.
Other than boric acid poured around the inner and outer peremiter of your foundation, short of the toxic stuff and paying an exterminator, I don't have an easy solution.
Better crickets than roaches I suppose. When I lived in the desert, crickets were a problem too. |

Something I've been wondering about. Having a lush, thick lawn and more bugs vs. a sparse lawn and less bugs. We have mainly flower beds with a gravel lawn, not much grass. Even though the horses are right at the house, we haven't had bugs like all of our neighbors, who to the last one, have thick, lush lawns. An internet friend who is working in Haiti says it depends on the type of bugs and lawn, they don't have lawns but do have major bugs.
Just something I've noticed.

Crickets are good. They eat mites. My mother worked in a nursing home one time, and they were discouraged from killing a wandering cricket becuase they are so good at killing more "germy" things.
Of course, I'm sure this is of little consolation to you. I can understand. People say snakes are good too... but I find they are best when they've been beheaded with a hoe.
