So I finally dived in and started spinning. I love it! But, I don't have a niddy-noddy yet or a yarn skeiner of any kind for that matter. Would love to have something besides my hands or my old chair to skein my yarn on. Also, if anyone has fleece or roving to get rid of I'd help you with that. Let me know what you would like for these items.

Hi Kathrine, So glad your having fun. I got into spinning last December. I love it as well. It is so...rewarding and relaxing for me. I'm fooling with wool and some of my angora rabbit fibers in my drum carder that my friend and I chipped in together with. Going to have some of my roving in craft sale in couple of weeks. Cann't wait. So how and when did you get into this hobby? Deb

Let's see, I got into spinning just recently. I spun one time as a little kid and it must have hooked me then. I love going into a yarn store. All the colors and textures get me. I can spend hours just looking and touching. I went to our local fiber art fair and a wonderful spinner had wheels for sale. Actually lots of people did, but this particular woman said, "Want to play?" Yep, I did. So I sat for a couple of minutes and she walked me through drafting and treadaling. Then I went back the next day and spent another 30 minutes to an hour with her. Well, I ended up ordering a wheel. Then the local college here advertised their community education classes. Spinning! So I took my brand new wheel I'd put together the night before to my first class 3 weeks ago. This next week is my last class. I'm loving it. So far my major hurdles are getting ahold of roving, winding my skeins, and having to teach my 4 year old and my 1.5 year old to treadle. So I'm brand new to this, but I'm having so much fun. I found a pair of wool cards at an antique store too. I've now got that to take care of some of the carding. Now I just need to find some local fiber. Actually I'm very close to a wool mill but they are pretty big. I haven't gotten up the guts to go over there yet. :)
Charlotte, you talking about soft fiber reminds me. I want to pick up some camel silk and some regular silk. Oh I love all the blending you can do. I'd love to eventually get some animals but I'm renting right now and I don't care for my rental so I'm hoping we'll find a place to buy with a little property where I can have a couple of critters.
Deb, I'm hoping I'll get a drum carder someday. *sigh* Now is not the time just yet.

Hello farmgirls, You are making me so sad. I bought a spinning wheel from New Zealand when I was 15 years old. I already had a table loom, (so of course,I had to learn to spin). Well, I grew up and left home and about 10 years later, I sold my spinning wheel. I want it back! I recently got rid of my loom, thinking never again. Isn't that always the way? I am also looking for some land, so I can have some critters and a garden and space for my camper and glamper. It's hard to be patient and find the right piece of land. All good things come to those who wait. And so I wait! Sorry I can't help you with your needs. Good luck to you both. Happy Trails, Jenne

Good luck on the land Jenne. I'm looking too. We thought we had it found but then the deal fell apart. Must not have been the right place for us. It is so hard to be patient though!
Maybe once you find that place, or before, you'll find a wheel or loom again.

Thank you Katrina. I have just begun looking again for land. I am relying on my women's intuition to know when I have found that "perfect" piece of land. It has usually worked in the past with big decisions. I am hoping it does again. Good luck finding your little piece of heaven. Happy Trails, Jenne |

Hi Jenne. I think you are right to rely on the your intuition. It seems that we know when something is right or not.
On another note: My husband got me a niddy-noddy for my birthday! And a little roving. The roving was actually some that was set up for felting. He didn't realize it when he bought it that it wasn't much. He was pretty disappointed in the amount. No worries. I'm making embroidery thread for crewel work. :) He picked out some beautiful Fall colors.
I'd still love roving or a fleece if anyone has it.
Any other spinners out there have much luck finding folks with fiber? I have a couple local sources maybe but it seems like it is very seasonal. That and it seems a lot of spinners raise their own and don't sell the fiber much. Anyone else find this to be the case? And maybe I just haven't been in this area or spinning long enough to know who is around and doing this stuff too.

KatTylee, Is there a spinning group you can get together with? The one I go to some of the ladies do have fibers to card for sell. If your interested in fiber let me know okay and get your address as well and I can send you a price list.. I have spun up some fibers for a craft fair to sell. So looking forward to see who would be intereted in yarn. Also I will have some angora fibers to sell as well. Fun, Fun... Deb

Hi Deb, Did you get my reply e-mail? Mine is funny about replying to you ladies here on the MJF forums. Sometime it says it sends but no one ever gets them. Not sure where into the cyber-world it goes but...
