We have an old house on our property that is seriously leaning and will need to be taken down soon. We are going to have the fire department come and burn it down. It has become a hazard.
The house was built around a cast iron bed frame. There is no way they could have got the frame up the tiny little stairs. We will have to tear out the wall to get it out of there.
Anyway, it is covered with the best weathered wood that is just beautiful. I hate to destroy it. We were thinking of pulling the exterior wood off and selling it or using it for some project on the ranch.
I need Farmgirl ideas of how to market such wood or some ideas of things that can be made with it.

With the old wood, you or your husband or both of you could make lawn chairs, bird houses, an maybe enough wood to have a raised garden in the summer.
Let us know what y'all do with the wood.

Barnwood is a hot commodity. If I lived closer I would be be interested. My husband makes some beautiful stuff out of barnwood. Furniture and boxes.

Sometimes woodworkers will trade new boards for barnwood of equal size. Usually a woodworker will replace it on the side of a building and collect the weathered wood and do it again after a few years. But of course that wouldnt work in your case since you are getting rid of the whole thing. But maybe there are good pieces on it you could sell or trade.

Laura, I am making a trip to Arizona in January, so maybe distance isn't such an issue. I will take some pictures and add them in a few days.
The old house is kinda cool anyway. I need to take photos before it goes down.

Oh that's sweet but I wouldn't bother you to bring wood that far, and Im a long ways from AZ. But you might be able to make a few dollars if you put it on craigslist. I look forward to seeing the pics.

| I know there are salvage companies who tear down old barns and outbuildings to reclaim the wood. I'd do some research online and see whether there are any who operate in your area. Also get an idea what the going rate and the process is usually like before you put it out on craigslist. There are probably insurance/liability issues to consider, let alone the fact that you want to get a fair price. |

There is a local company (2 actually) out here in the Spokane, WA. area (that I know of) they are Demolition/Salvage yards... when they demo structers they often will re-sell any salvageable items,,,
knobs, hinges, windows, doors, vintage wood, trims & mouldings etc.
Check with your local or nearest demo/salvage company.. maybe they will buy some or maybe almost all of the
re-usable woods, windows, doors etc. Check your phone book or on line for such a company...
It would be so sad to not be able to or have someone else re-purpose any salvageable parts of that old structure... after all remember...

oh & just another thought... check with any near (WY) MJF sisters to see if they want anything... 
the 1st person that comes to my mind is Shery, Ranch Farm Girl... she does the MJF blog from the ranchwife view... and is equally talented when it comes to re-purposing salvageable cast offs... check out her blog from the MJF forum blogs.
trust me, if I lived closure... I'd be knocking at your door for permission to go "shop" that old building!
