Went "thrifting" yesterday looking for Christmas items to list in my Etsy store couldn't find one thing... and of course I ended up buying something for myself instead!

A vintage men's London Fog wool double breasted well below the knee winter coat- So, last night I adjusted the buttons and will be hemming the sleeves just a smidgen-the shoulders are a little big, but I do like a roomy coat! I can't believe I got it for only $9.99!
-Retail lists at $235.00.

I will be knitting a huge thick "snood"/"scarf" to match the lovely charcoal gray color.

And Marjean.... I will be donning one of your lovely brooches you sent me to add a little feminine sparkle to it!

Don't you love finding a good deal?

DH just laughs and shakes his head-It's a guy's coat, but so well made and just my style....I couldn't resist.

What are your thoughts about wearing MEN'S CLOTHES??

I'd wear mens clothes in a heartbeat if I LIKE them, they fit, are comfy and suit my style! Some of my favorite long-sleeved, denim shirts are mens sizes . . they fit!
My western boots are mens . . . they fit without killing my feet!
You go girl!
Gonna post a pic? Would love to see it!

I was at the thrift store one day and overheard a conversation between a young person and someone with a few more years. The young person was commenting with discust about having to look through everything. The other lady commented "It's like a treasure hunt". Great treasure, Melody. I think I will go treasure hunting this weekend.

My favorite thing is thrifting. I go at least once a week and have found some name brand clothes etc at a fraction of the price. Most of my clothes are thrift finds and sometimes I get lucky and find mens clothes. I buy books, nick knacks. decorations for the holidays,
furniture, household items. Even on vacation I look for the thrift stores. Was in Fairbanks this summer visiting our son and he told us about several stores to check. Great finds on winter coats sweaters.

Farmgirl friends are fun.

I think that we farmgirls are experts at thrifting and I think we're smart for being so. I, too, go thrifting . . . sometimes we call it "boutiquing" . . in other cities. You never know what treasures you will find.
We have three shops locally and I'm a very frequent shopper at all of them and will continue to be so. I find amazing things at amazing prices!
Let's go thrifting Farmgirls!!!

I love thrifting, so much that I actually joined a couple of swaps on another forum that included thrifting for........whatever the theme was for that swap. It's much more fun to shop with a goal in mind.

I like the look of men's clothes, but I'm too short to wear them. The big shoulders and sleeves down over my hands make me feel like a clumsy hobo. Melody, I envy your tailoring ability! My husband scored a sweet vintage military peacoat recently. Too small for him, and I just wish it looked better on me.

Amie....I know how you feel! My DD is searching for a coat like mine and I thought well let her try it on and she is shorter and well-"stacked" as they say, she looked like she was standing in a hole-Way to long for her. Funny you should mention a military pea coat! For years I have worn a mid-calf military G.I. green trench coat and years ago I had a good friend of mine ask me to come to her mother's house-her mother had recently passed and she was going through all of her things-when she found something she thought I would LOVE...It was a vintage World War I Yves St.Laurent (label) officers trench coat in that lovely olive color and in amazing condition. I cried when I tried it on-It fit me to a "T" very unfashionable I guess to the current trend, but I "owned" that coat and wore it for years and years. I grew up in the service and must have developed my "fashion" sense geared towards military-style-LOL!

To me, men's clothes are better made and put together if you're the outdoorsy type.

My best find was a Coach purse I bought for $.99!! I still have it and it's a classic.

I wear men's clothes all the time! I especially like men's sweaters. I have really long arms and they just fit me better. I had a olive drab officer's trenchcoat that I wore until it fell apart! Loved it! I was in Kohl's the other day and broused the women's sweaters...yuck! All cheap and tight and just tacky and all made in China! I went to Goodwill and found three beautiful wool sweaters in the men's section. All for $10.00!

Wow, Melody, what a little miracle that the trench coat came to you. And Diane, I agree with you on the sweaters. I just spent a frustrating day at the mall myself. I can't wear the men's stuff so much, but thrift and vintage can give you so much better quality.

When barrel racing some of the Races require a long sleeved button up shirt which I have never cared too much for, but recently they have been selling some in the western wear stores that have extra long sleeves and they are so much nicer. No more feeling as if I am in a straight jacket and get the form fitting body too. No billowing.
