I wonder if anyone else out there always feels guilty for doing the fun stuff if you know the chores need doing? I had a plan today to continue with my yo-yo quilt and crochet rug and Im spring cleaning instead! Hmmph I always do this lol:)
So much to do, so little time :) |

| Lol...I was just pondering this yesterday. I do like cleaning...but not everyday, all day. And lately I have been wanting to go up to my craft room and just play. But, I put it off because I feel guilty. My husband is at work all day, my girl is at school, other kids are working....so I don't go because of those feelings. Then by evening, after supper and cleaning up..I go up to the room, and have no inspiration because by then I am tired. Or, as is also the case...my daughter is needing help with homework. I tell myself that a little break is good for the soul, then I would be more refreshed and energized. Studies show that our brains actually use a left or right side depending on what we are doing. For example, when we are doing "work", our minds are functioning on the right side. There is no relief of stress, feelings of contentment, because our mind is wanting us to keep going..get the job done. But, when we are crafting or doing something pleasurable...our minds shift to the left....and that is the side that will give us peace, contentment and happiness. It is believed that people who are aware of this shift, actually begin to shift sooner than normal and can go long periods doing something enjoyable and lose track of time. Personally I have done that crafting...just lost track of time, and feel more peaceful...and believe the idea to be true. Now don't think I am some nutcase....I was educated in this concept when I was in school for Graphic Design. Anyway, long story short...I feel the same way. One day I am just going to do what I want and enjoy myself...hahaha. Erica |

Ha ha, we are so alike! Im also busy in the evenings helping my daughter with her exam work and am totally fried at the end of it :)She is studying Art, Modern History and English and stating Uni later this year so its a very important year for her. The Art is easy as Im artistic myself, but the History and English, well its more than a few years since I studied those:)
So much to do, so little time :) |

| Lol...my daughter is in 8th grade in Algebra I....and I am lost. She is doing really well in the class, but still has questions, and seriously, what she is doing now, is not what I was learning in Algebra I!!!! I feel so dumb when I try to help her...lol. I lean towards History, English, Health, and hubby is the Science and Math go-to-guy in the house. Funny how that works out;) Erica |

Farmsisters,
Head for those crafty projects. Have you ever seen a dust bunny get up and move on its own? Yes, it may multiply, but one thing for sure, it will still be there waiting on you when you decide to get to it. So, treat yourself to your craft corner, and use that energy and inspiration to create. It is called feeding your soul. Now I do have to say, being an animal lover, you must feed the children and animals first. LOL! I find if I take a little creative time out for myself, I tackle those household duties with more gusto! Give it a a try!
Be good to you! You are worth it! If I try to do household chores first, I just sashay through, not really doing the good job that I should. I can't help it, the creativity surge just takes over, and then I begin to hate doing the chores. How many ladies do you know try to make pictures with furniture polish on the furniture before dusting? True! I was doing it all the time. LOL! Hubby thought I was nuts! Now I just go create and come back to do it. No more streaked furniture or windows. LOL!

Ok , im done:) I bravely ventured into the Den of Doom ( otherwise known as my sons room ) and after a valiant fight, came out alive to once again breath fresh air! I seem to have aquired a washing pile the size of a small mountain, but thats it, Im done, feet up, tv on, laptop to hand and rag-rug looking at me loviningly with a twinkle in its eye waiting to b picked up and crafted once more:)
So much to do, so little time :) |

I'm with Debbie . . "buzzn bee" . . . I'm a senior citizen now and I'm finding that some of that chore-y stuff just doesn't matter so much. YUP, I clean and dust and all that, but not so obsessively as I used to! We live in the country where dusting the furniture is pretty much an exercise in futility, but I DO dust and vacuum and such on a regular basis. Just not so worried about it . . . my black Steinway piano looks likes it's not been dusted within a mere half-hour of dusting it . . . ARGGH!

I almost always opt to do something else than chores...inside chores that is. I LOVE outdoor chores like tending to projects on the farm, hanging out with the animals, cleaning stalls, etc.... I do not like cleaning house. I am not a good housekeeper at all. My hubby will get irritated with me from time to time but he loves my home cooking so much that he doesn't complain about my shortcomings.
One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt." |

BuzzB Debbie, I love your thoughts. I do get more done inside in winter than not, but come spring omg forget it. If I have dishes etc they get done quick. During the week I have 2 part time jobs, and 1 cleaning business of my own. I take advantage of every beautiful minute I can be outside. Ey the chores will get when they need to get done.

Boy it is so nice here. I fit right in with everyone and feel the same way about crafts versus chores. The crafts win here. My house does get done but My animals and crafts really do come first, but I am by myself so no one really is about to get me on to it. I do love it when my house is clean clean though. It makes me feel good too.
Actually I have to work and am involved with several community organizations and that really does keep me busy too.

I am so glad we can be honest with each other. I love it. I am alone too, Darlene, and the only demands on my time are when the cats want to eat or have the catbox cleaned.
I love to putter in my garden and can spend a couple hours there easily. Emailing you guys is wonderful and I can get lost for hours at a time also.
This stuff needs to go in another book Mary Jane!!
Look at the "Tales of our Forefarmer Sisters" thread. We need to memorialize this wonderful thing called Farmgirls on the Computer.

I think I've got a great idea for everyone: Write the things you love to do on the calendar as you would write in a doctor's appointment and schedule it. Of course, schedules can change, but if it is down as something important, you will find the time. What do you think?

With all my critters and 2 businesses I have to be careful or if I get too distracted something will freeze up, burn down, or die. If I do get any time I have a mountain of paperwork waiting for me...ugh. I haven't got time to do anything in so long that it feels like a chore to even know where to start on a project. I actually am an artist, or used to be anyway. All my creative energy flows into my horses. Hopefully I can trim down on my horse herd and find time someday. I do have one drawing that I plan to do and will make time for. If any of you ladies are finding a little time and energy to do crafts, do it! I would if I could. My chore list includes art time every day, but still doesn't seem to happen.

I think that is a good idea too Bonnie and if you can find the moment or two to work on a craft then you can still enjoy crafts and then go onto you other work. I heard here or somewhere else that even just working on something for about 10 minutes at a time or a day will help you get to do a craft, it just takes longer but it still gets done.
It is a good thought anyway.

| This afternoon and tonight I retreated to the craft room and began working on Valentines for family and friends. Now, I am feeling so much better. Came up with an idea to collage all my die cuts onto paper to then mount onto a card. I may take pictures to share if I feel confident about them. I like how they turned out and it uses up all those extra pieces I acquire over the years. Now I feel inspired!!! Just thought I would share...Erica:) |
