My Uncle Carl has been battling cancer for the past several years. He has been getting progressively worse, and yesterday he was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia. They do not think he will make it another week. Tonight he was transported to Hospice care where he will spend the rest of his days. I am asking for prayers for my cousins and aunt, and of course for my uncle that he will be comfortable in his last days.

Thank you Marlee and Susan! It feels very sad when the "elders of your tribe" start to leave. They are the foundation in your world, and when they start to leave, it really makes you realize how precious life is.

I agree with what you said about how precious life really is. In my family there are few elders older than me left. It is kind of lonely at the top of the chain.
Prayers for you knowing God is there to be with you through all this.

I just wanted to thank you again for all of the prayers. My dad just called and said my uncle passed away. He was surrounded by all of his kids, grandkids, and almost all of his brothers and sisters. I was there for 5 hours this afternoon and feel good that I got to say my final goodbye. His breathing was very labored with long gaps in between breathes. He was strong and fought hard and I know he is in a good place, but boy are we going to miss him :(

Oh Emily, so sorry about your Uncle, but you are right he is in a wonderful place and won't have anymore pain but will be there to welcome you all with open arms when it is time to go heaven. My prayers are with you and your family.

So sorry for your loss. He is no longer in pain and I hope that comforts your family.
Speaking of "Elders of the Tribe", when my mom passed away 13 years ago, my boss said that now we must step up and become those Patriarchs and Matriarchs,(Elders of the Tribe).
