Wow, the sap is really running here in Altamont, NY! We've been boiling every night, plus all day every day this weekend (including Friday, since we had a snow day off from school) . I love that we've gotten off to a good start, but man, I'm glad the season doesn't last too long!

I'm still working on the delicious jar of maple syrup my Windy Pines cousin, Michele, gave me. I agree nothing beats home tapped syrup. Michele mentioned they will start tapping up at her farm in another week or so. I sure hope everyone gets great tapping weather & has a bountiful run.

Nothing better then having FRESH maple syrup on your pancakes. Tastes even better then canned! Hope you have a good run. We may tap tomorrow, will see. Michele |

We do sell it! Send me a message if you are interested.
We've made 22 gallons so far. The cold weather temporarily stopped the sap, which was kind of good. It gave us a chance to clean all the tanks, etc., and get ready for the next sap run which should be starting soon, based on the weather!

Jennifer how fun! I have heard how time consuming and how much labor is involved but there is nothing like Maple Syrup :) I can only imagine how wonderful FRESH syrup is.

Oh I simply get all warm and fuzzy when I think about the field trips we'd go on as kids to the "sugar shanties." My dad would always take me along too. He used to sell dairy equipment, and so a farmer friend was never far away. I can just smell it. Just feel the festive energy of the process, and know how cold it is outside and how steamy warm it is inside with all the sap boiling. Sweet happiness.

| Awesome! I'm hopin you made a lot of syrup. I grew up on a dairy farm but the "sap house" was and still is the hottest(no pun intended) hang out in our lil one horse town. Mom makes the cookies(chocolate chip, no brown sugar..maple syrup)a big ol dish of sloppy joes and everyone brings a dish to pass and their gossip. My dad has since turned the operation over to my nephews but I remember as a kid (k.I'm only in my mid 40s)going tree to tree takin off each bucket and dumpin it into a tank. They have snce gone to the tubing but it's so cool to see how a lil hick town looks for the steam to be coming out and know they are welcome to stop in. Ever tried hard boiled eggs in the sap or hot dogs? And the best is fresh drawn off syrup over vanilla ice cream. Shoot, gotta go I just got hungry:) |
