I am scrolling through the merit badge PDF, saying to myself, "I've done that one, and that, and that!", yet I haven't sent off for any of them! I mean, do you submit 'proof' of what you've done, or just send and email that says "Yes, I've done this!"

I'm so weird. Lol!

Also, we are going to be homeschooling next year, and I am going to get my girls involved in the 'Young Cultivator' program. :0) Excited about that, too.

gosh! something i can answer!
go to the section about earning merit badges- there will be 6 categories on the right side -two are in pdf form- the list of badges and the checklist-
then the section that says apply for merit badges
also there is a merit badges update log .

yes; you do "document" what you do....
have fun!

Me, too... Only I haven't really pursued getting my badges because I just get so much satisfaction from the final result - that is reward in itself, you know? It'd be nice to have them, because I probably would never have been able to accomplish anything without MJF's inspiration and all of our farmgirl sisters' help; but I just don't have time to submit anything right now. That's okay. I'm just thrilled to have done anything - and I'm a much better farmgirl-at-heart for it! :) Hugs - Nini

I agree, Nini, and many of these things I have been doing for years. I was so busy last year, but I think now I will pursue getting those badges. I need to learn embroidery anyway, lol. Margo, did you take photos of all/most of what you did? or just written documentation?

Amanda and Jenne,

When I first started looking at the badges a few years ago, I did the same thing and just started putting the information into the applications for merit badges. Just read through the requirements and document them in a Word document that you can cut & paste into the application. In many cases, you may be able to submit for ALL three of the levels in a category, but you do have to apply for them in order. You can't skip Beginner and/or Intermediate and go to Expert, even though you are an expert.

I have submitted photos as much as I could, and recommend that if at all possible. You can submit only one photo, so it needs to be as "explanatory" as possible and a good quality photo. You DO have to complete the application, you can't just send an email. But if you go to the FARMGIRL SISTERHOOD section here in the Connection and then go to the "EARN SISTERHOOD MERIT BADGES" you'll get to where you need to go and in the body of the text there is a link "apply for a Merit Badge" and that will take you to the application.

As I mentioned before, I suggest putting your info in a Word document first and then save it. THEN, copy and paste into the boxes in the application. On a rare occasion the application doesn't go through to the Farm and, if that happens you won't have lost your information for the application and can resubmit if necessary.

Hope that helps . . . hollar if I can help further!
CJ

Thanks, CJ, that's just what I'll do, then. I looked at the application form and I am fairly sure I can round up some photos to send for most of the badges. Thanks for the info :0)

Thank you CJ. I will be submitting for badges soon too.
I already have a tote ready to sew them onto. Is that putting
the cart before the horse or just plain Farmgirl Ambition?

you know I'm glad this thread was started because I've been hesitant about merit badges myself. There's a lot of things I know how to do and would have some badges already if I only put in to get one! Most confusing is what category to list my luthier skills under-refurbishing instruments and getting them playing again.

You know what I am terrible about doing? I get hung up on the embroidery aspect, or don't have the special paper I use to transfer the image, so I forget to apply for what I've worked so hard to do, or apply, but then forget to go back and print it out! I have gotten backlogged on my embroidery of the badges. (head hanging low). I've got to sit down myself and get organized. Merit badges make me so proud!

Hugs,
Nicole
