Hi girls -

Our son had my cell phone with him on Saturday when he went to the cemetery with his Church Youth Group to do clean up detail. Suddenly the phone rang - only four numbers on caller ID: 5655. He picked up the phone, and a recording identified the caller as our bank, and said that our cards had been deactivated. The recording said that in order to have them reactivated we would have to call another number or something and enter our card numbers. Of course, he just hung up the phone. When my husband got home to tell me, I immediately called our bank. Apparently they had been receiving numerous calls from customers and non-customers alike concerning the same call. It is a scam. Nothing was deactivated - everything in our account was fine. The crooks are making random phone calls, trying to get you to enter all of your card information, and then they in turn use the information to clean out your accounts and/or run up your credit card. How rotten is that?!

I'm sure by now we all know not to give away ANY kind of unsolicited personal information to ANYONE - either online or over the phone, but I just thought I'd let you all know, just in case... They're out there phishing!

Hugs -

Nini

I got a call from my credit card company which WAS legitimate but I told the gal on the phone that I needed to be able to verify that it was a valid and legitimate call. She gave me a reference number, I called the company back and verified it was so. The caller and those at the company were very understanding about my concern.
But, the criminals are getting more and more sly, sneaky and it's downright scary!
We must be very wary and alert!

I had someone call and tell me they needed my info for security, the bank was one that I didn't even have an account with. So I played along and told hold on and I would give them my account number. I ask if they were ready when I gave them a number it was to the Sheriff's office. I ask if that was all they needed. They hung up. Never had another one since.

They are scum!

A friend from RI emailed me last night to tell me that they have a telephone company scam going around up there. Her elderly mother was so flustered, she started to give them very personal information. My girlfriend caught her Mom in time, called the actual phone company and found out it was all a scam. She had to review the way things work with the telephone company with her mother so that she doesn't get "bullied" or tricked again by these con artists. I think what bothers me the most is when they harm the elderly. They are so trusting and come from a day when trustworthiness was practically a given. Today - not so much.

Marlee - I'm going to have to remember that one! How awesome that you were so quick thinking! LOVE it! :)

Oh... and by the way... as of Monday morning, the bank's website has a warning about these phone calls after you log in. Apparently, these calls were targeted toward debit cards alone. Either way - you're right, Marly - SHAME ON THEM!

Hi Nini, those scams upset me so much, because they do target the elderly. I know the sheriff here because he was our neighbor for a few years. So I know the departments #. Sometimes if someone calls when I answer they start by not even giving a name , if I would like trip somewhere and ask if I have A credit card. Then I tell them they must have made a mistake ,this is the sheriffs department. Next I hear is CLICK.

I am sick of those people. They don't care the lives the ruin.
But I do!

Hahaha Marlee, That is some quick thinking.
Yes Marly shame on them.
We have been getting scammers on our verizon cell phones. They text us saying they are verizon and saying we should contact them because we are about to lose our pixplace accounts. It's a scam. Sometimes we get charges for some sort of application we didn't ask for on our phone bills too. It aggrevates me that verizon and other phone companies let this stupid stuff happen. I have also gotten calls saying they were alltel and wanting info. It was always right after I had made a payment by phone to alltel. They must have been getting hacked or something there for a while. They would ask to verify personal info.
