Hello Everyone!
I hope that all is well and the night is peaceful where you are.
My Name is Lindy and I am so happy to have found this group.
I have been reading Mary Jane's Farm Magazine for a couple of years. Before that I used to dream of having a farm someday.
Well, earlier this year that dream was realized. We found a 12 acre patch with an old house on it. We bought it and have been having such a good time. The house is pretty small. It was built in 1920 and I have been in touch with the lady who was born in this house! She has been such a goldmine of information. She has shared so many stories of her life here. It is such a grounded feeling to look around my tiny farmhouse kitchen and think of her mother, here in 1920. She swept the floor, wiped down the counters and feed her family just as I am doing now. She also brought fourth life in this little place.
I am married to my HS sweetheart for 11 years now. We have 2 boys 6 & 5 and one girl who is 2. The children have been having a ball, swinging on the tire swing, gathering hickory nuts and chestnuts, having bonfires, you name it.
We decided to call our place Sweet Harvest Homestead. We are raising fruits and vegetables here but we are also raising children, to us they are the Sweetest Harvest of all.
okay, that got a little corny there.
I am just happy that you all are out there. I felt like a loner for a while but now I see that there are lots of kindred spirits who appreciate simplier times.
You all have a good night and I look forward to knowing you.

Welcome Lindy!! YOu sound just great and you will fit right in here for sure!! I love the name of your place..and what a fun thing to have so much room for the kids to run!! I live in a small very old house too and love it. How lucky you are to know the original owners!! I know the people who lived here since 1950..but need to do some research to find more about the owners before that.. I agree about children being the sweetest harvest..corny or not..it is just true!! Good to have another kindred spirit here!!

Welcome! You are so right that children are our sweetest harvest! There are days when my three boys are bickering and being so rowdy that I don't always see the "bounty" of my harvest, but I know when it is all said and done, they will be the best thing I ever produced! So glad you joined us! Brenda

Wow! Thank you all so much for the kind words. Your commets brought tears of happiness to my eyes. I look forward to knowing you all!
Lindy (note to self, do a check for spelling errors before hitting the submit button) I noticed that I said "she brought fourth life in this house". I guess she might have brought a fourth, fifth or even a sixth. Sorry about that. ha ha! |

Hi Lindy! Beautiful name for your farm! My old farmhouse was built in 1918. I met one of the two children born there, but he passed away before I could get much information on my house. You're very lucky to have that lady as a resource. Does she have any old photos of your house 'the way it used to be'? I've asked around my farm community, but so far, no one has any pictures. I hope your farmhouse was in better condition than mine(it had sat empty in the middle of a cow pasture for MANY years-it's still a work in progress). I love to read about other renovation/restoration adventures!

Lindy, Welcome!! I agree with everyone else, what a beautiful name for a homestead. Your story gives me hope as we are dreaming of our own farmstead too someday. Just a week ago one slipped through our fingers and it was very upsetting but you have given me new hope. Thank you!! Keep raising those sweet harvests!! Kel |

| Greetings, Lindy! She brought 'forth' life in your wonderful home, and maybe in the back of your mind you are thinking about bringing forth a fourth (ha)! Welcome to a great group of gals; you will be such a great addition to the fold, I can tell! Have a great day. Nance |

Hi Lindy, That's a pretty name. I'm so glad that you found your "Dream-Come-True" farm! And to find the lady who was born there is an added plus! I'm sure she had lots of wonderful stories to tell. How wonderful. Welcome with a BIG farmgal hug!

Hi Ladies! This is so serendipitous! I received an email update this morning from Mary Jane's Farm blog. That led me to think about this forum, so I came by and logged in. I had a different username when I first started up WAY back in 2006. (Sweet Harvest Homestead) See very first post at the top. Anyway, I searched for and found some of my old posts and wow! This is so cool! On this day- 19 years ago, I joined the chatroom! My babies are all grown up now, but we do still live on the same acreage in North Carolina.
Are any of you original ladies still around? I remember some of you being so sweet and supportive when I first joined.
xoxo, Lindy

Hello Lindy, So glad you have returned to the forum. I joined MJF in 2010, but have only been active on the forum for five years. I married and moved to Monroe, NC just up the road from you. We lived there for 40 years and now live in SC. Are you on Union Power lines? If so my husband was a lineman for them and then before retirement he was the line supervisor. We have one son, 30 years old who married three years ago, and now has taken over the home place. No grandkids yet. Looking forward to getting acquainted, the forum is such a warm and inviting place.
