My garden walk ways are very slick and I need some ideas on what to put down. Any one?

my mom uses artifical turf tacked down, and it also works as a weed barrier...

I am going to use river rock....pebbles that are too large for my chicks to scratch out. I have it around my pool and it is smooth and round so it doesn't hurt my feet.
