...without an "air purifier?" Have lots of houseplants!!! I've looked around at information on this, and the plants that top many of the air-cleaning lists include spider plants, peace lilies, bamboo palms, English ivy, golden pothos, mums, and gerbera daisies. I love houseplants, and, geez - the clean-air part is a wonderful bonus!

| Another one that I don't know the name of right now, but is sold at every grocery store and any store I ever go to, is a green one with just leaves, broad heart shaped leaves, that are shiney. A light green that often varies in color even on the same leaf. They are hard to kill, don't need much water or light! lol Any way when I bought it it said on the stick in it that it was a good air purifier and very good for the bedroom air quality. I wish I could think of the name of it, but I can say many people use it as a house plant and it does vine out. And they are very cheap! I love mine. We've always had them growing up because they were cheap and hard to kill! lol I can attest, I've went on month long vacations came home and it was still alive! lol haha |

| Heather, is it the monstera plant? That sort of vines, has large heart shaped leaves, so it sort of matches your description. Sometimes the larger older leaves also develop slits in them during the maturation process. Anyway, here's to greening up our lives!! Nance |

| Yup has splits. Sounds like the same thing! You can also just cut off one of those leaves (with the whole stem) put it in water and it will grow roots! Many people hang them as well. |

| Yes it's deffinatley a philodendron. I knew the name of the other one didn't sound right, but did sound like the right description. When you typed in the name I knew you were right with out looking at the picture. But, looked to double check and yup that's it! |

I just thought I would bump this one up and say that I now have a philodendron or other "air helper" in every room in the house, except the kitchen, which houses my beloved aloe vera plant. I just LOVE the green feeling of the house now - and the days have been so nice that I've been throwing the windows open wide all day long. Ahhhhhhh.....a fresh house. I LOVE IT!!!

I use plants where I work indoors, of course at home and on the farm. A Farmgirl needs crops. They just follow...I see a bare, sunny spot, and have to fill it with something alive.
At work I have ferns, palms, coffee (planted in an oversized coffee cup...too funny), a lemon tree (I get a crop every year), an orange tree, several ficus, poinsettias, a camillia, and a fishtank (adds a touch of humidity, which many industrial air systems suck out of the air). You know, I don't have a philodendron...I love them, but they just grow so big so fast.
Plants make the time I have to spend indoors feel more like the time I get to spend outdoors. They also lead to sharing plants, lemon bars (happiness is sharing goodies with friends), gardening tips, and well-being with everyone that comes by. Without them, something is just missing...living air, air that is part of an organic system.
We make a difference. |

Hope you ladies enjoy! My mom gave this to me because we both have tons of plants- or I did before my dog ate a few as a puppy and my fiance tried to kill the rest off. Now I am down to only 4! Yikes! I better get more!

I love having plants outside my windows that are close to ground level. That way when I open the windows, I have the benefits of plants as well. It also casts shadow on the windows during the summer and can help keep rooms a few degrees cooler (if the plants are tall enough).

More reasons to have more houseplants!! I love plants. I gave my mother in law a great philodendrone for christmas and it is really growing well, so now is the time to get a few clippings, lol and make a new plant for each of my rooms.
My son has a spider plant in his room, he even made the pot and saucer in his ceramic art class at school. But "his" baby is gotten to big, as I saw this huge root poking out from its drain hole the other day, time to replot. I have an ancient christmas catus. a rabbits foot fern and a bay plant in my kitchen.

I agree, plants "liven up" a home/office.
When we owned our first townhome,my husband referred to the living room as the "Jungle" because I had plants everywhere. Then when we got our 1st house on 1/4 acres- I went apesnot and planted a hugh garden and had only a few indoor plants. Since we have been at humble abode #3,the Moorpark house, I have cut back on my outside garden & increased my indoor plants.
Wonder what will happen when we get into our Spokane house... I suspect I will O.D. on indoor plants for that year round green effect.... My orchaid plant is starting to bloom & I am so excited...& yes it is traveleing with me to WA. I'll smuggle it in to WA. if I have too!!!! or find a motel room & live with it till it finishes blooming!!!LOL!

| When you are selecting your plants see if they will bloom at any time in life. I found out you can be allergic to some pollen and not others. You could also be allergic this summer and not next, as is poison ivy and mosquitos. |

Do you mean you could be allergic to poison ivy one time and not the next and the same for mosquito bites?

Yes. The summer I was pregnant with my daughter, I never had bite. I didn't have one until last summer. Same with her. My doctor said with both its an allergy. Both take place on the skin and the skin changes constantly. I have never had poison ivy and go camping all the time.
