Hi Doreen :)
This is our favorite:
Crock Pot Apple Butter
Wash and cook apples in large pot after removing stem and blossom ends, When tender and cooled, push through sieve or food mill.
8 Cups Applesauce 4 Cups Sugar (2-white/2 lt. brown) ½ cup apple cider or cider vinegar 2-teaspoons cinnamon 1-teaspoon ground cloves A pinch of baking cocoa
Place all ingredients in crock-pot. Cook on low 10-12 hours. Make sure steam escapes when it starts boiling. Stir occasionally. Pour into sterilized jars and seal.
Yield: 4-6 pints
*You may need to adjust cooking time for desired thickness:)
**I have made this with the cider vinegar and it comes out good, but if the jars aren’t going to be used in a year or more, the flavor tends to sharpen.

We LOVE apple pie jam. Here is the recipe:
8C diced apples 1/4C lemon juice 1T cinnamon 1/2t ground ginger 1/2t ground nutmeg 2 boxes powdered pectin 8C sugar 2C brown sugar (firmly packed) 1/2 T butter
Put chopped apples in measuring cup. Fill with water to 8 C line (I usually use a 4C and put apples in and fill with water to 4C line and repeat, as I don't have one that large). Put apples, water, lemon juice, spices, pectin, and butter into a large stockpot. Bring to a boil. Add all the sugar all at once and bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly. Continuing to stir, allow to boil for one minute. Remove from heat. You can then remove any foam if you wish (I usually leave it, lol). Put in sterile jars, leaving 1/4 inch head-space and hot water bath can for 10 minutes. Remove lid to canner and let sit for 5 minutes, and then remove. YUMMY!

| I made this over the weekend but used cinnamon red hots (1/2 cup) to basically the same recipe as the apple butter one- fun and it turned a pretty color. |
