Finally, after 3 woven rugs each one "smiling" which is a big no no...I adjusted my tension-the warp isn't near as taut as before-eliminated 2 sections of warp- am now giving myself a smidgen more weft-which I angle a little better and I am moving my temple more frequently.Hopefully, when these rugs are cut off the loom I won't have the dreaded "smiling" phenomenon!
These will be for the bathrooms in the house-Recycled bed sheets that have been washed dozens of times so they are soft and comfy. And, the colors are cool and summery! I love blues and greens.
I think I'm FINALLY getting the hang of weaving rag rugs on my Union #36---

Thank you Shannon!!
I LOVE the idea of recycling fabric and I LOVE the idea that I am creating once again. It's been a while since I ventured into anything like this. I've always wanted to learn how to weave, but I never thought it would be the challenge that it is. Nice to know that persistence pays off-I keep reminding myself that to be really good at something it takes a lot of trial and error and not giving up....and it's true....You can teach an old dog new tricks!

Melody, your rug is beautiful!! I love the Spring colors and pattern. Congratulations on getting it the way you wanted it to be. I have to say it looks complicated to me!!

I thought I would just jump right into weaving-Head first of course. I did a LOT of research months after I bought the loom and restored it and quickly realized weaving is more complicated than I thought, but one can learn and get comfortable with the "steps" and actually enjoy seeing the progress as the rug "grows!" I realized that when warping a loom there is no room for interpretation-a real challenge for me as I have a tendency to wing it. Hopefully, after a year or so I will be good enough to actually start selling my rugs on-line and maybe pick up the craft show circuit once again...that's my goal. Meanwhile-I learn something every single time I start a rug-I love it!
Thanks SO much ladies for your continued encouragement-You have no idea how much it means to me!

Moving along nicely----still some trepidation when advancing the "warp" as this is an oldie but a goodie rug loom with very simple and basic mechanisms-My heart still pounds when the warp tension is released and everything seems to collapse into itself. I'm getting a lot of very good professional advice online from other Union #36 weavers thank goodness!
Here are a few progress photos I snapped this afternoon!
