Hello all. I live in northern Michigan, yes I am one of the "troll people". Those of us that live below the mighty Mac Bridge are troll people :) I enjoy my small vegetable garden and my kitties. I learned to can jelly a couple years ago and live for it now. Someday I may grow Into pressure canning foods. I would enjoy having a few pen pals to share letters or postcards with. I love to learn about other places :)

Hi Alice. Welcome to the farm. I have never heard the term "troll people" and will have to look up that region. I must agree there is nothing like personally canned jellies. We can our own each year. Learning to can with the pressure canner will open up a whole new world for you!

Hi, Alice, and welcome from down in Texas! So happy to welcome another animal lover. I have 7 kitties and one big, grandpa dog, all rescued from homeless or abused (or both) situations.

I have never been a pen pal, but, I do write letters, so if you'd like to email me your address, I'll send mine back to you.

Welcome from beautiful Chester County, PA! I am a recovering home food preserver - ha ha ha. When I had lots of people at home to feed, I ran the canner, deydrator, freezer -- whatever I could find -- from about June through October. Now I dehydrate what we can't use fresh and make my own yogurt in the dehydrator about every other week. I am so hooked on the fresh homemade stuff! Hope you enjoy the Sisterhood -- lots of great people and lots of great ideas to share.

There are trolls under the Fremont Bridge in Seattle, too. (Also the 3 Billy Goats Gruff) Sounds like you are in good company.

Hello Alice and welcome to the group! Can’t say that I have ever heard of the “troll people” before. I learn something new every day. Can jelly is so delicious! What flavor of jelly do you make? I make raspberry jam with my mother and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I would be more than happy to be one of your pen pals. There are also swaps on here in which you can sign up for to exchange letters and such. I plan on signing up for a few myself. Hope you can find many new friends on here.

Alice and Krista - there is a thread under swaps for penpals if you ladies are interested... You just need to post something about yourselves on there and then send me a pm with your mailing address and I will add you to the list and send the updated list to each of you and everyone else on it. There are currently a little over sixty Farmgirls on it :)

I must explain about "troll people". Michigan is 2 peninsulas. The only way across the lake is the 5 mile long bridge or by boat. I live about 60 miles below the bridge. People like me that live in the lower peninsula are nicknamed " troll people".

Hi, Alice! Welcome from Iowa! Yes, I have heard of the Michigan
"trolls". We travel to the UP as much as possible. Last Summer we went up to Paradise to visit White Fish Point and then under the Bridge to visit our "troll" g-daughter in Marine City! We are "Yoopers" at heart! (I know you will understand this) lol

I can lots of jellies too! Mostly grapes, raspberries and honeysuckle from our woods. Dandelion and violet from our yard.

Welcome to the farm, Alice! You've found farmgirl heaven!
I don't do much canning, but I LOVE my little backyard flower farm, re-purposing, treasure hunting for vintage finds, and the beach. I also love writing for MaryJanesFarm...
Come by and say howdy to Mary Jane's Farmgirl Bloggers sometime!

Thanks for explaining that, Alice. Since I've never heard of Michigan troll people, you can probably imagine the picture that popped into my mind when I saw that term. I bet you don't look a thing like that!! : )

Hi everyone! I wanted to let you know that my book is now on Amazon! Some of you expressed an interest. Herbs to Know for First Aid is a great book to keep in your back pack, 72 hour kit, bug out bag etc. it is spiral bound and is a good size for packing.

Welcome Alice. I'm so glad to hear of your love for writing letters, so please do check out the pen pal thread like Shannon said. Although with all the chat that goes on in this forum, you might be too busy to write! haha
