Hello all,
Our family has been home to the most delightful little corgi dog for the past seven years. Four years ago our "Maggie" was very ill with a disease that compromised her immune system. An allergic reaction sent her immune sytem into chaos, it basically turned on itself an attacked the platelets in her blood. Her platelet count was so low, she was bleeding internally, and we nearly lost her. Thanks to the knowledge & skill of vets at the Purdue University Small Animal Hospital she has been in remission for nearly 4 years! This is pretty much unheard of.
Yesterday she was stung by a bee and her system is again attacking itself. This time we know what it is, and began treatment immediately. We are hoping we caught it in time.
This dog/person is the six million $$$ dog at this point and we cannot afford to go another round at the University.
The boys adore the silly pup, as do hubby & I. They are fearful that she will pass before Christmas an I hate to even imagine that senario. I know, I know, this is "JUST" a dog... But some of you understand that these silly little animals somehow worm their way into our hearts. Legend says the Corgi is a Fairie dog... certainly this little pup has managed to enchant all of us.
If it doesn't seem too crazy to you, I would appreciate a prayer or two for Maggie. She is very important to our family.
Thanks so much.
Rhonda

Oh Rhonda, I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet Maggie. I feel as you do that our pets are very much our children and I will of course send some prayers upward for you and your baby. My little Scruffy dog had the same health problem. He was one of the lucky ones that survived, but after a lot of $ and tests, we almost lost him. As a last resort the Vet Specialist put him on Prednesone and snapped him right out of it. He lived for many years after that. Has Maggie tried that?? I sure hope things turn around for her. Good luck and please keep us posted. Big Hugs, Lu

Rhonda, if you had Purdue's small animal hospital for your dog, you had vets who are among the best in the nation. I'm confident they've done well by both of you.

And of course I'll say a prayer for little Maggie! We used to have four Corgis, and they're wonderful dogs. Animals are very much an integral part of our lives. Please keep us posted on how Maggie's feeling.

Rhonda,
You'll never hear "it's just a dog" out of my mouth or from any of my true friends. They are special beings with special places in our lives and hearts.
Sending good thoughts and prayers to your dogger -- and, of course, you and your family, too

Karin

Hi Rhonda,
I echo Karin in that no one will ever hear me say "it's just a dog, cat, bird etc.". I believe that animals have a direct link to so many things that are beyond us,and they give so much. As I had posted earlier I had to have my little fur-girl cat euthanized in November, and I grieve so for her. But, with good vet and home care she lived a loved life. So I will be saying special prayers for all,may healing grace visit your home and all who dwell within. Please keep us updated.

Here Here! I have four dogs and three cats, and they are all family to us. We will all send up a prayer for little Maggie...so sad when they are ill--I know I feel helpless, I'm sure you do, too.

Rhonda, my heartfelt prayers go out to you! Of course, I'll send up doggie prayers to Our God, the Creator of all living things.....for your sweet Maggie. At our home right now, we are the proud pet parents of four sweet doggies, one eccentric ruler cat, a "miniature" pot-bellied pig, and two turtles. I know exactly how your hearts are woven with Maggie's, and I hope and pray for a successful treatment for her. Puppy hugs to all!
Fondly, Norma

Rhonda, Not crazy at all...it doesn't seem the least bit crazy to me! Many of the prayers I utter are for those with fur. Now, your Maggie is included in my list. Please keep us in touch with how she is doing.

You'll never have to apologize for loving a pet. I'm still mourning Abby's loss from August......so I know the sadness, the joy and everything else that comes w/ owning a companion animal.

Thank you ALL for your kindness! So many of us have lost a beloved pet over the years... Anna, Jane...so recently. I suppose it is part of keeping animals, but still, never easy. I knew I could ask for prayer for our gal from my farmgirls.

Tonight Maggie is holding her own. I have been up for three nights with her, like having a newborn. She is on massive doese of Prednisone and we think this has perhaps stopped the bleeding. At least we see no signs of new bleeding. Her levels will be tested on Monday so we will know then. I have been talking to her, encouraging her...telling her "you are a platelet making machine Mags-you can do it". It helps ME feel better anyway.
Lu it's so encouraging to hear that your "Scruffy" survived the same problem. Thanks for sharing that story!
And Jane, I am so sorry you lost your kittyfriend in November. I guess I missed your post. We have three funny cats of our own who keep us continually entertained. Miss Cordelia sleeps at the foot of my bed each night...I can't imagine her not being there.
Anyway, thank you, each one for your kind words and especially your prayers!

Of course I will pray for your dog, and for your "other" kids too...just in case she doesn't make until after Christmas. Loving a pet, well, it just makes life better! And I will never forget the heartache of losing my childhood dog....oh, I tear up just thinking about it!

I'm sending up prayers for your Maggie too, Rhonda. I understand about talking to her like you do. My cat, Kate, was only supposed to live for 6 months when she was diagnosed with cancer. But she lived with an excellent quality of life for three years. I always felt that if I was ill, I wouldn't want a room full of people crying and carrying on to be the last thing I saw in life, so I never let negativity in my thoughts or in my house. So keep on being positive and encouraging! Much love and hugs to you all.

Hi Farmgirls!
Miz-Maggie went to the vets office this afternoon for blood tests. We won't know exactly what is happening until her platelet count comes back in a few days, but the vet thought she looked great! We are thinking (& praying) we caught this in time! Because I had a terrible headache today, my hubby & son offered to take Maggie for her appointment. I had to laugh as they told me how well behaved she was and "how proud I should be of her!". Guys... LOL Maggie does have a truely sweet nature and I am just SO pleased that she seems to be doing well! Thanks again girls!

I'm so happy for Maggie! Let's keep fingers crossed until you get the results, but if the vet thinks she looks good then that says an awful lot!

Keep us posted--she's been in my fur family's thoughts!

I'm so happy today! Maggie's platelet levels are in the normal range, low normal, but still NORMAL! She does have a slight infection, probably because she is on a high pred dose. I'm off to the vet to pick up meds for that, but otherwise celebrating today! Thanks so much farmgirls!

Oh Rhonda, I am thrilled to hear that your pup has turned the corner! I know first hand how awful and nerve wracking this condition can be! I'm so happy that the prednesone (sp?) has worked!!!!! At the time our Scruffy was so sick, the vets told us that only 3 dogs make it out of 500 with this, and he was one of them....now I'm praying that your Maggie will be another fortunate pup!!! I think you just got an early Christmas!!! BIG HUGS!!!! Love, Lu
