I found this nonfiction book to be very informative and it gives a fair factual picture of the American prairie. I hope you can find it at your libraries, it is a new release.

Sounds good Dawn, I will get it after I finish reading The Saints of Shallow Hill by Donna Everhart. A fabulous historical fiction novel set during the Great Depression in the turpentine camps of North Carolina and Georgia.

I have been on a Freida McFadden reading spree. I have read The Tenant, Ward D, and The Housemaid. I am currently reading The Housemaid's Secret. All really good books if you like psychological thrillers.

I have been reading about American history from 1900-1950s all year long. But recently l found this book titled " The Uncertainty of Everyday Life 1915-1945" in America by Harvey Green. It was both fascinating and informative about how our Nation faced many trials and tribulation with a major crippling Great Depression and two World Wars. Most of us were born after WWII and have experienced a long run of better economics with higher wages and affordable housing and medical availability. The effects of all the big three disruptions I mentioned had a huge impact on the lives of middle and low class people for generations. We have come a long way but we have more issues to work on as world populations have grown and climate changes are challenging everyone. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about how we got to where we are here and how life was for our Grandparents and Great grandparents. I bet you might feel the same amazement as me about what was happening all those years when parents were raising families.

That sounds like a great read, Winnie. I'll have to look into finding it. I've heard of that one, Grace but I don't think I've ever read it.

I forgot to mention, given the book is/was written the early 1960’s depicting the 1940’s the language can be a bit offensive … But considering the ‘Jim Crow’ era,, there was ( not excusable) a different mindset in certain societies/communities.. And while I would like to think we have progressed,, just 40 miles down the road, there still exists ,, that antiquated mindset. :>( Again, a very good read about mindsets in society, but very offensive-derogatory language.

I have been a fan of the Hallmark movie channel for years now. But, never was much of a reader other than the bible, craft books and cook books. But, I decided to buy the When calls the heart series of books by Janette Oke. I love them. I'm on the third book in the four book series. My daughter is an avid bookworm and so after telling her of my new past time she brought me back a book from their trip to Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine last month. Light on Jib Island by Jill Gilley.

Thank you Winnie for sharing about the book you are reading. I am going to check it out at our local library. Do we have a farm girl book exchange going on? I would love to share some of my books or exchange with others who might be interested in doing so.

Marjean I have been reading her books for years! You would probably like her stand alone books as well as series. Another favorite is Lauraine Snelling.
