Good work Hedwig. You know, if we had to pop out an egg on a regular basis, we might get a little testy too. Ha.
Blessed are those who love the soil,

Ahh, I can well remember the excitement of the first eggs! I wanted to take them in the house and make a little shrine or something; it was a treasure!
Congrats; I hope you find another today! |

Yay for your first egg!
You remind me of some friends of mine...they grew up in the country and then went to college in the city and stayed there for awhile and are now back in the country. She wanted chickens and he wasn't so hot about it but she got her way ;) So when my parents got their new batch they gave them about 10 of them to get started out. My mom's started laying long before this couple's did so they were anticipating that first egg so badly (He came to love them too...lol). So it finally happened for them and they took all these pictures with the egg and emailed them to everyone. Pictures of her holding it, of him holding it...they were so funny!

Good job Hedwig! My family always asks after the hens whenever we talk on the phone and now my Dad is so hooked on fresh eggs he refuses to eat any store bought! I also post chicken updates on my blog so the out of towners can check out the chickens also. My adult son's enjoy chasing the chickens around the yard (boys will be boys) and my granddaughters tend them with me when they come to visit(future farmgirls:). One of my greatest joys of country living is the ability to own these wonderful creatures. Make sure to praise Hedwig, she has given you a great gift!
