I can't WAIT for fall! This heat is killing me!
I've been soothing my itch to decorate for fall by creating decor items that I'll put out this year!
Got one wreath and one candle mat done with supplies for 2 more wreaths lined up - except for orange burlap - still need to find that! |

How about this lovely village in Vermont? It just reminds me of the beauty that is coming soon to those who live up north!

Well, I have to agree with you Jess on the older I get the more I love autumn. The colors, smells, COOLER temps. And you know me, I'd decorate with fall year round. Winnie, I love your bowl full of autumn!! Judy, that is such a pretty picture!

I didn't join in on Beth's fall cardboard pocket swap but I did make one. It now hangs on my china cabinet door. I love it. I used scrapes of fall color fabric stuffed with bittersweet. Little by little I am decorating for fall.

Hoping the weatherman is right on the temps in the 80's next week. I am so done with Summer heat.
Sara, that's sound so cute. A touch of fall here and there!

Yesterday I used some of my early apples I purchased last week in Asheville, NC to make a sweet apple relish and a loaf of Apple Cheddar bread. I found the bread recipe last year and tried it out when I was doing our Apple Badge during September's Apple Festival here at the farm. I used MaryJane's ChillOver powder to thicken my relish and went a bit overboard with the amount so the relish tastes wonderful but is a bit too stiff. No matter because the warm bread softens it up right away. I am enjoying it with my recent arrival of PUMPKIN SPICE COFFEE!! Life is good and fall is getting closer every day!!

Have any of you gotten that Fall Itch and made a recipe that you normally only make when the weather cools off? Chili? Soup? Pie? Let us know!!

That fall bug has bitten me hard too, Mr scarecrow and his brother already flew in and perched themselves in our yard, one near front door and the other in back yard flower garden... a few happy pumpkins followed them in! I guess they are trying to tell me to get cracking on the fall embellishments! I've never turned down a scarecrow yet! Happy fall to all my sister's out there!

April, I'm with you when it comes to scarecrows. Can't have too many of them. Today I'm sewing new patches for two stuffed ones that sit on my front porch. One of my new fall fabrics has big red apples so each scarecrow now has a shiny new apple on their trousers knee. They will fit right in with my decorating for FarmGirl Apple Festival and Apple Pie Sunday.

Sara, I bet your scarecrows are adorable! You are absolutely correct that you can't have too many scarecrows for Fall. To me, they just signal fun, family, and simple pleasures. I love to drive in the Fall through rural areas and look at the great scarecrow and fall displays people put in their yards. Such clever and creative uses of hay rolls, hay bales, corn stalks, pumpkins, wagons..........all wonderful! I had to quit making scarecrows for my yard and porch because every time I do it, they get stolen. As a matter of fact, I've had the wreath off the front door snatched along with pumpkins and wooden yard art. It makes me mad so now I only put fun things out on my back porch where nobody but us can see them!!

So far Winnie the only thing I have had stolen was two pumpkins the first year I was in Paris. I did the Country Living Mag thing and lined my front sidewalk to my porch with pumpkins and pumpkins/large gourds across the porch. The two pumpkins closest to the street were taken. I'm glad I did it that one time but never again. Now I just put pumpkins/gourds around the front step.
Over the years I have dried gourds and small pumpkins. I keep them in a round wood cheese box and sit it on the front porch with a stuffed black crow on top. I think it looks sorta Country Living Mag.

Hmmm, Sara. I never have heard of or seen small dried pumpkins. How do you get them to dry without rotting first? I have seen gourds dried but never the little pumpkins which I know would be fun to use every year in bowls etc. Wow, I bet your house looked so festive the year you did all of those pumpkins up the sidewalk! A lot of work but what a wonderful Fall image for people who pass by.

Can't wait to get back home and start my fall decorating. Enjoying the grands but when I'm away I always think of all the things I want/need to do at home.
