It seems that things break down when I'm on my own. Today I wandered downstairs for quality time with my cat, when I saw water on the floor. We had an on-demand water heater installed and it sprung a leak. I turned it off, unplugged it and turned off the water. Then I mopped and turned on the dehumidifier. Luckily it hadn't spread too far, but there's probably water under the cabinets. My husband is in Florida dog sitting, and he had been concerned about the water heater breaking. It's just machine malevolence that made it go kaput the day before he returns.
Found my bit of Heaven, the saga begins!
