I've not mentioned my trip to the Thrift Store for good reason. I'm trying to decide whether to admit to you seasoned shoppers what I left the store with that day. I need encouragement. Tell us about your strangest/oddest/most unusual purchase at the Thrift Store. You know, the thing you didn't need and still don't need. The thing that sparked your interest and the price was soooooo low, you couldn't resist. Fess up and I will too.

A dressmakers dummy?
I also found my collection of really nice kitchen steak knives by haunting the thrift store and buying them one at a time. They don't match and they aren't esp. pretty but they are much better quality than the matched set I bought at the store.
but strange? not sure.

| The tackiest planter ever! It is a little bald magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat...fits a small houseplant...my youngest daughter saw it and HAD to have it...that was quite a few years ago, I still have it though, fond memories attached...love the crushed velvet purple pants!! |

Oddest/most unusual? Hmmm . . . I'm a fairly new and irregular (hate to shop for anything anywhere -- except for juntiquing), so this is a hard one. If you'll let me count what a friend bought when I was with her, it's 1 child's pink rain boot. Not 1 pair, just one boot!
Her neighbor's little girl was sick; she put some chopped-up styrofoam peanuts in the bottom, added some dirt, and made a really cute planter out of the rubber boot. She put a plant in it that needed transplanting so the little girl could start a garden.
I would never have thought of it but thought it was a really cute idea.

Well....I have never found anything too odd but one of my girlfriends bought a bunch of old record albums and found $3,000 dollars in them. Pretty nice huh? I always felt bad about whoever lost the money. I don't think it bothered her very much!
I did get a wedding ring quilt for $3.00 and was thrilled with that!

My 8 year old nephew found a ceramic or porcelain falcon and it is huge! He forked over nearly $20 for it and dragged it home. My sister says that it is hideous and looks like a lamp base. But this little kid loves this bird like it's a real one and now he's NUTS about birds of prey.

Erin- I hope someone gets him the book My Side of The Mountain by Jean Craighead George. He can live vicariously through the character Sam who raises a peregrine falcon. I have a raptor lover too!
Now back to junking... The strangest thing I ever bought (I won't ask for dh's opinion on that...) maybe three "heads" in the same day. One green glass, one like the top of a department store mannequin and one very heavy and covered with some old fabric. I needed them to display hats but I have never heard the end of..."Some people think two heads are better than one but not my wife! She now has four heads and I see NO improvement!" (My husband has a very odd sense of humor...) I remain a woman with four heads!
So Rebecca... unless you bought a leopard spotted toilet seat or a woman with a clock in her stomach you are probably ok among us nuts!

The strangest thing I have bought at a thrift store was a baby hat that my then 6 year old cut ear holes out of and turned into a goat cap. Erin, I would give anything for a dressmakers form...just not $200 like they ask at the store.

Trina, I agree with you...Erin,either one of us will release you of that find.
Weirdest thing bought.... for me was a snowshovel...paid $1 for it...why weird? I was living in Florida at the time and homesick for winter. I put a big bow and some decorations on it and sat it on my front porch. You've heard of rain dances? So, whynot.

I think I would use the word "quirky" for many of the things I bring home...they make my studio FUN!
My friend took home a large Marlin (fish) from our thrift shop for her studio. The studio is not yet a studio, as they just moved into an old house and are fixin' it up. But she says she is going to paint it pink and hang it one end when her studio gets finished...I think this is strange...so I kid her about it.
