opps! I meant to preview and I clicked submit... (see what I mean) anyhow a little about me. I'm 46 raised in a little west Michigan town. My dad wanted us kids to know the "Good Life" so he bought a mini farm when I was 10. Our "Farm" had 4 horses, 1 cow, bunches of chickens, and my dads favorite... pigs. He plowed the fields and planted corn which we opened up by hand when it came time to harvest. So many memories that are true treasures now. So what did I do but marry a city kid who has no clue and begged him to buy a little farm house with 5 acres. We have been renovating for the past 20 years, and hubby has built a barn, chicken coop, wood shed, and my dream!!! Problem is this little farm is in the middle of suburbia I feel like the milk bucket under the bull! But that doesn't stop the dream which I live everyday. Although when I get done filling the wood bin, feeding the chickens ect. ect. I look forward to reading all of your posts you are of kindred spirit that blesses me! Thank you

Well, it seems like you are doing the right thing. We had to finally sell our little farm when progress decided wewere in a city and no longer country. You know what....happens. but hang in there you are living your dream. Marybeth

Penny, Welcome!! You gave me a chuckle with your milk bucket under a bull picture but I am thrilled you are living your dream and I think that is what matters!! I admire your determination and think it is wonderful! I can not wait to hear more about your little piece of heaven and am so glad you joined in! See you 'round! Hugz! Talitha

Hi, Penny - it's good to have you here. We've owned our place for 10 years, and yes, the renovation never ends! :)

Wow!! I think I've found my new drug of choice. All of your cheerful replys gave me a rural route rush, (ya know that feeling that ya get when you expect the usual 3 eggs a day and then you find 8) speaking of chickens I have to tell you all something neat. This is the first year I had eggs all winter with no laying mash at all! The difference was (mabey) everyday I put 6 drops of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide in their water. Anyone else ever hear of that? Libbie? are u the Libbey in the magazine??? oh boy, I'm honored... until next time

Yep, Penny, that's me! I'm really interested about the hydrogen peroxide - how much water did you put the drops in? My hens always slow way, WAY down in winter - to the point that this past winter I had to buy...ugh...STORE EGGS. Once. After that, I just couldn't do it !
XOXO, Libbie

Wecome Penny,
What part of West Michigan are you from? There are a few MJF fans in the Grand Rapids area and everyone is ready to have a get together now that the warmer weather is here. Happy to keep you in the loop! Ann http://annforrester.tohe.com |
