We planned to fly my mom out to western Washington from Indiana to spend Thanksgiving with us, and we were going to take her to the world's easiest and tastiest Thanksgiving dinner that we've discovered since we moved here - Thanksgiving buffet at Little Creek Casino. Thanks to COVID, though, Mom's not coming and we're not going to the buffet. As a result, I ordered a fully-cooked turkey dinner from Safeway for pick-up the day before the T-Day, and we're going to take it out to our travel trailer we keep at a private campground in the forest. It'll just be me, Tim (hubby), and Jaxx (our recently-adopted rescue dog) for the holiday this year.
How has the pandemic changed your plans?

To be honest we still don’t know what we are doing. The governor just put us into another sort of lock down where you are only to be with those who live In your household for the next 2 weeks. So who knows what will come from that. We won’t know anything until the end of these 2 weeks. May just be my little family this year too. If that’s the case I will just make a small Thanksgiving dinner for us.

It sounds like you are flexible and adaptable, Krista, so that's half the battle. I expect lockdowns or pseudo-lockdowns to happen more as the disease just keeps spreading. I hope your holiday is still meaningful.
Also, I love Utah. I've only been there once (to the SLC area) but it's gorgeous! I also love the size of the houses there! So much room - I'd actually have room for my food storage if I bought a house in Utah!

Always just hubby and I and our animal friends. We'll smoke a turkey and have veggies that we have grown---either frozen or kept in the root cellar. I always make cornbread stuffing and cranberry sauce. Fun and simple.

It will be the same for us here, our sons and us for dinner. My oldest son is a police officer and since he's single without kids, he usually has to work all the holidays. Hopefully he will make it, but I've learned not to count on that. I will cook for all of us anyway. We like to eat and then take a hike at the Morton Arboretum afterwards to help digest all that food. I am thankful for my family and our home, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

Yes, indeed, holidays are different this year. We have encouraged family to stay put (Nevada and Utah). So it will just be DH, the critters and yours truly. Will do Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings . . . except Cornish Game Hens instead of a big turkey. Already got 'em in the freezer. And have acorn squash from our garden this year ready and waiting. Add stuffing, gravy, smashed taters, and pumpkin/Praline pie and we're good to go. It'll be lonely, but "safe". If I can learn how to SKYPE between now and then, maybe we can have a virtual "get together". 2020 IS NOT MY FAVORITE YEAR!! I WANT A DO-OVER . . . jean

My daughter and her family as we spend alot of our time with them. I don't really know other than that. Everyone is pretty much staying put I think.

Rachel, I love Utah and agree, it’s very pretty. I live a little over an hour north of SLC. We are less crowded and less busy this way. I actually don’t like traveling to SLC because the traffic scares me lol. We actually made sure our pantry in our house was big enough for our food storage lol!

I believe we're staying put for Thanksgiving day itself... we are on a 2 week lock down again here in Oregon... my parents, sister and her family all live in the Portland area and the covid cases are highest there in our state, my dad is terminal and has no immune system to fight any possible germs, so we will not be gathering around the thanksgiving table this year. However, we are planning on making a day trip over, probably the day after thanksgiving, to see my folks, masked of course, and to drop off christmas presents, just in case we're unable to make it over the mountain next month as we already have snow in our mountains. So, it will be quiet here on our little home front, it will just be the four of us, my three kings and I, but we will be counting our blessings, that's for sure.

Thank you for replying to my question, ladies. I love reading how you're all coping. Not once did I notice any grousing - it's all the "can do" attitude I expect from the women of this community! Making the best of it regardless of the situation!
We are in the Seattle metro area, and we are likely to head toward another lockdown, as well. Cases in WA have doubled in the last week, and the governor is rightly concerned.

We contrary West Virginians are on the uprise too. I think people should do what they have to do this holiday and next year will be better, Hubby and I wear masks every where and yet we see people go into stores that say masks are required without masks on---go figure, You all are right---do what we have to do these holidays===there will be many more for most of us. God bless you all and happy Thanksgiving to all.

Not sure how our family will celebrate Thanksgiving this year. We normally have all of our family come to my house, but now it might be different. Some family members are panicked about the pandemic and others really don't seem to mind. I will have to see when the time gets closer. But they are all invited!

It will be a quiet Thanksgiving with the 3 of us. Hubby, Son and myself. Since we moved from Colorado our Neice will not be able to share this Thanksgiving with us as she can not fly in from Denver. We will miss her. At least our family of the 3 will have a our traditional Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for. I wish all of you a Blessed Thanksgiving.

I will be staying safe at home. I do have family nearby but we are being responsible so no gatherings this year. Today our governor announced some new restrictions will be going into effect tomorrow that are meant to keep us all safe. Hopefully my new outdoor pizza oven will arrive before Thanksgiving so I can enjoy a fresh homemade pizza made with ingredients from my garden. If not then I'll fix up something else fun on the barbecue. It's just me so trying to do the full on Thanksgiving feast doesn't make sense. But I'm having fun dreaming up new traditions that fit my lifestyle. Clearly it's going to be different this year so why not make it extra special? I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
Cheers! ~ Marilyn

We are experiencing a rise here as well again. Our county/town is on a Code Yellow MicroCluster warning. We have been asked to have no more than 10 for a Thanksgiving gathering. We will have 9. I am lucky that my one daughter and grandson live here with me and my husband and my other daughter and her husband and 2 children live only 5 min away. They will be joining us. She has been quarantined and her husband is a first responder and has to be tested weekly so we know they are clear of the virus. My mom is also only 10 min. away and has been quarantined too so we will be 9 all together! My house has always been the gathering place for Thanksgiving so it will be nice to still have that tradition. We have so many different dietary needs so it looks like we are feeding an army but that way everyone gets to bring home lots of leftovers and have good stuff for days! We have traditional foods, Vegetarian and Vegan takes on traditional foods. Always starting with a Homemade Soup this year is a Vegan - Creamy Mushroom and Long grain Rice Soup! So Yummy and Hearty! We will Miss My Aunt who is under the weather and My Great Uncle who is unable to be released from his Nursing Care Facility due to Covid. We are sending cards and Care packages to them ahead of time but it isn't the same. We will all pay closer attention to our tradition of sharing what we are all thankful for this year! Thanksgiving is also my daughter's 26th Birthday so this year we are all surprising her by dressing as her (each of us have taken a look from a different picture of her and re-creating it) Her favorite dessert is Cherry pie so she will have her very own with a special top crust decorated for her with dough unicorns. My husband and I will also have the whole house decorated with all of our Christmas trees so when she m=wakes up it will be a winter wonderland! It is those special moment that we will remember that will make 2020 not so bad when we look back!

The little red hen asked her friends, "Who will help me plant the seeds ?" "Not I," barked the lazy dog . "Not I," purred the sleepy cat . "Not I," quacked the noisy yellow duck . "Then I will," said the little red hen . |
