I picked up my first MJF magazine in mid-2003, and I was instantly captivated. Even though I'd grown up on a hobby farm in southern Indiana, I was then a city girl who wanted to find her way to a little piece of land to call her own. For the last 18 years, I've been a faithful reader and sometimes poster here (when life isn't insane).

Fast forward through those last 18 years, through life/career moves that took me to Louisville, KY, to getting married, to Indianapolis, IN, to Kent, WA, and finally, to our most recent (now previous) home in Port Orchard, WA (which was the first house we ever owned). The most we ever lived on in that time was .25 acres.

Until now.

Last Wednesday, my husband and I closed on a beautiful, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom 1589 sq foot rambler situated on 4.54 acres in the lush farmland of western Washington that sits in the shadow of Mt. Rainier. Our property is fully fenced in, with the front acreage sectioned off from the back because it likely used to hold livestock of some kind. It's heavily treed and nicely serene. The sounds of roosters, horses, and cows replaces the sounds of the town we just left. To top it off, we have the most lovely, large covered back porch that stares out into the trees and fenced pastureland. We are on well and septic, both of which are new for us, too.

The property came with a greenhouse that needs repairing and a fenced-in blueberry patch containing 12 plants!!! I'm an instant Blueberry Farmer!! I likely won't plant a garden until next year given the timing, but I'm thrilled about the prospects of what's ahead!

Anyway, this Farmgirl-at-Heart is FINALLY an actual farmgirl and I can't wait for the adventures ahead!

So great Rachel! And so many features already in place, including the fencing around the blueberries.
Sounds gorgeous.

Congratulations on your new home! My husband comes from the beautiful Washington State and we are quite familiar with the area around Rainier. We still have friends living in Rainier. Have you tried the thickshakes from the "Scaleburger" shack in Elbe yet? That used to be one of our favourite stops on the way to Mount Rainier.

Congratulations! That is so wonderful! Your home looks beautiful. How lucky to have all of that.... I'm imagining blueberry muffins fresh from the oven piping hot with melted butter :)
