Well farm girl sisters,, it has been an interesting 2021... For some, it's been a sad year of loss, for some, a challenging year, a year of change and for some,, a year of learning, coping and discovering our inner strength...

One thing I have done a lot more of, is channeled my inner German cook... LOL! to my hubby's happiness and waistline!

I also have been baking bread a lot... and have really been using my pot holders,,, I happen to throw several in the laundry and thought,, I need to make a few new ones... Bling! the light bulb in my head went on!
So, how about we make 2022 the year of the Potholder?
they can be Quilted, Crochet/knitted or by weaving.

So how about we make 2 pot holders, make one for yourself, and 1 to send off to a special friend as a RAOK....

There are 'sew' many cute ideas for potholders,,,, I think I even have a few crafty patterns for pot holders.... or for our knitting/crocheting gals,, again, a gazillion patterns. I think we have a couple of 'Weavers" in the group, and I would love to see what they make...

Maryjane, I'll be sure to use my new pot holder while I bake scones in celebration of your birthday

Wonderful idea, Grace. Now to get busy and think of what I will make. One thing is for sure I won't be starting from scratch there's plenty of old ones I can recover.

Jean asked a very good question,,, about the potholders,,,
make one for yourself,, and if you are so inclined, make another one,, or more, to send to a recipient of your choosing as a sweet gift or you can send it anonymously to some one as a RAOK.
Just have fun....

Last year I discovered my inner cook as many of you have,,, and embarrassed as I am, I have scorched a few and stained others... But then I guess it's sort of a badge of courage to have tattered potholders... If they were pristine, , that would mean they didn't get used...
BTW, sometimes my potholders get used as bowl cozies too!

I don't have any hexagon ones, but a farmsister sent me one of those heart ones and I LOVE it! I just used it today to make cookies :) The one side is not so pretty anymore - stained from use - but the side that splits looks beautiful, so I make sure that side is out LOL!

This year I want to work on using my stash rather than just adding to it and I would like to spread some smiles. I was thinking of making a bunch of coasters/mug rugs for the nursing home. I think some pot holders would be a great addition for the assisted living section. Thanks for the idea Grace!

I love this idea, Grace!! It would indeed be a perfect Jubilee 2022 Farmgirl project with the idea of sharing one with someone else. Count me in! It looks like this year's Jubilee will be Friday May 6(MaryJane's birthday)-Sunday May 8. I have it noted in my planner. My guess is that if you make potholders and need to mail one, then it would need to go out no later than Monday May 2 in order to arrive for the actual Jubilee weekend. It that what your were thinking??

Great idea, Grace! I think I know just what I will make at least 2 of!

Heather, A potholder swap is nice, and is easy to mail. And potholders are always needed. They do get worn out when used a lot. I make the microwave potholders all the time - sometimes they get scorched in the microwave.

Ok, so I thought I would do a test run,,,

I used 2 layers of "Thinsulate", which I now think is a bit of overkill, so the next one, I will use just 1 layer of "Thinsulate"... Or 2 layers of cotton batting.
I had some sweet Maryjane fabric left over from another project...
After I finish this one I'll post another photo.
Hmmm, might have to do another one in red and black to look like a Ladybug!!!

Lining the pot holder can be done in different ways. The thinsulate, yes, but back in the days my ma used to use a couple of layers of denim from old jeans. I hope to make some to gift!!

Super cute Grace! I wish I was sewing right now... Just heating up some milk for a hot cocoa as I undecorate the tree. That's the only downside to a real tree - you have to get it out quickly or you'll have a giant mess (learned that the hard way).

Oh Michelle, great idea to use old denim or even tattered old blankets and towels for the inner batting.
Hmmm a Denim potholders is an interesting idea! Denim on the underside and a cute print fabric for the top side.. luv it!

I have been wishing for snow. No white Christmas here.

Potholders are splendid idea Grace. You always come up with some good ones! I need to get back to sewing and creating. I can't seem to get into it yet for some reason. But I'll give the pot holders a shot and see how it goes.

Oh and I love the ladybug idea for a potholder. My kitchen is white and black with pops of red so they would go real well. That's if I can figure out how to do them.

Front side

Back side...

It snowed all day so I decided to play in my sewing room.

I just might challenge myself to make 1-2 pot holders each month until May...
They are quick and fairly fast and a good scrap buster

GRACE!! Those are DARLING!!!
It's been snowing here all day as well, but I was homeschooling my youngest all day who had a severe case of procrastination!!
Sew... no sewing or crafting for me, but I can't wait to dink around and try my luck at my first pot holder soon! Thanks for sharing inspiration!
