I recently discovered this wonderful forum, and already feel right at home!
Ever since I was a teen, I wanted to own a piece of land and grow my own food. A neighbor gave me a copy of a book that was about subsistence farming on 5 acres of land (for the world of me I can't remember the name, I wish I still had it!) I even obtained a college degree in agriculture to forward the dream, but 20+ years later it is still a dream. I feel fortunate that my husband shares the same goals though. We'd love to buy some land now for when hubby retires in 8-10 years.
We live in the suburbs on a 6000 sqft lot, and we've decided to plan a micro-mini farm, maybe grow something to sell at the farmer's markets that are fairly common around here. |

Glad you've joined us, Maria! This is a wonderful place. Pull up a chair, pour a cup of tea and sit a spell......we have lots to talk about. Farming is a state of mind....Ive done it most of my 50 years, but just got the farm a couple years back. I'm not truly home til I've got the earth beneath my fingernails....know what I mean???

Oh my gosh, Buttercup, that is exactly it!!!! Right now hubby and I are on an experimental "spending freeze" (not buying anything but food and necessities), but this book is going to be the first thing I buy when I have the opportunity :)
Thank you thank you thank you!!! |

Welcome, Maria! I love the idea of your micro-mini farm. But in my mind, I see you with bushel baskets of miniature food! Tiny corn, teeny peas, itty-bitty brussel sprouts... :) Glad you found us!

Welcome Maria!
What are you planning on planting this year? I think selling at the Farmer’s Market is a great idea. Farmer’s Markets are so much fun. I have sold my homemade soap at ours before and I loved the atmosphere of being a vendor.

Hi, there, Maria! Welcome! I'm glad you found us, and I just know that you'll find this place to be just like a home to you. I can't wait to hear more about your micro-farm, too - it sounds like a great idea!
XOXO, Libbie
