Today I am prepping to put up corncob broth tomorrow. Fresh corn on sale for 29 cents an ear so I ordered 6 ears in this morning's grocery delivery. Annie and I sat out on the back deck so I could husk the corn. We are under a severe thunderstorm watch but so far it was perfect weather to sit outside. I haven't made corncob broth in a couple of years so happy to get back to it. It's good in soups, stews, and to warm up vegetables when you need a little extra liquid.

Sara - you always can the most interesting things! I hope all your jars seal tomorrow and that the storms aren't too severe.

I need to try that this year Sara. What all do you put in besides the corncobs?

Lisa, I've learned from trial and error to add fresh bay leaf, garlic & onion powder, and instant chicken bouillon all to taste. Add salt only if needed. No black pepper, it turns bitter in canning process. I like the mild corn taste it has even with what I add. Next year I may try adding an herb, like rosemary or sweet marjoram.

Heather thank you for the wild violet jelly recipe and for taking the time to write it out for me. Very nice handmade envelope and card.

My rhubarb has been very slow growing this year, but I got enough rhubarb to make 2 pints of strawberry rhubarb jam yesterday. Both pints sealed. Hopefully I can get some more rhubarb soon, because this is a favorite jam in our house.

I love cherry jam! Great job Karen on having them all seal for you. Cherries are really expensive at the farmers market and stores, do you have your own trees?

Dawn, yes! We have one tree! It’s a Stella cherry. You only have to grow one tree as it can self-pollinate. It was cultivated in BC, Canada!

Great job Karen. Years ago we had two cherry trees, and I got alot off of them. Last year we planted a new cherry tree. I canned cherry pie filling from some boughten ones last year and that is so good. Enjoy your cherries.

Cherry jam sounds good! I have a tart cherry tree that is going bonkers right now. I have 6 pints in the water bath now. We're doing things opposite each other Karen LOL! Earlier I canned 9 jars of strawberry syrup.

Heather have you tried canning cherry pie filling? That turned out oh so good for me last year.
For one quart jar- 3 1/2 cups of cherries, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 + 1 T of cook style clear jell, 1/3 cup of water, 1T+ 1 t lemon juice, 1/8 t cinnamon, 1/4 t almond flavoring. I doubled this and it fit perfectly into 4 pint jars.
Mix sugar and clear jell. Add water, cook stirring constantly till thick and bubbly. add lemon juice; boil one minute. Fold in cherries, cinnamon and almond flavoring. If your over 1000 ft above sea level, water bath for 35 min.
If using frozen cherries, strain over a bowl, thawing with hot water. Save the water and use in the recipe.

Michele - Did you use tart cherries? That's what I have and I'm not sure if it would work. I have a recipe for cherry cobbler that uses tart cherries in water so I try to get 6 jars for that. There will be more cherries in a couple days, I'd love to try pie filling.
