Time does fly! Here we are in a new month already.
The only thing we have planned for this month is to visit our Ohio family. Not sure when yet. Our eldest granddaughter there will be getting baptized and we are hoping to be there for it.

Still working on my swaps and other projects.

What's new with you this month?

Denise~~

Another month and things keep changing. Ed and I are planning on staying in as much as possible with the upswing in the virus all around us. Hopefully, we will be able to get many of the boxes sorted through and stuff put away (though it is getting harder and harder to find where to put things), listed and sold on Marketplace, donated, or thrown away. We had planned on having a garage sale, but with everything going on I really don't want a bunch of strangers coming to mhy house. I have sold a number of things on Marketplace; I try to list things that are $5 or more. I have several antique furniture pieces listed now - pieces that I really have no room for here. Hopefully they will sell quickly.

A former neighbor gave us some plants and cuttings yesterday, and we have them all planted in pots. Hopefully they will survive the stress of being transplanted. I would like to get some plants for inside the house, but since we also want to travel that may not be a good idea.

The wife of the neighbor who passed away from COVID has now tested positive, and another neighbor I haven't met, who was consoling the widow, has now been tested and is awaiting results. Sending prayers that all farm girls and henhouse members stay safe and healthy. We cancelled dental appointments scheduled for tomorrow to be on the safe side.

Linda, I think you should go ahead and buy some house plants. You may not be able to travel anywhere with others for a while. I'm wondering if they set off some new bugs in Texas and Florida. They want us sick.
My mother used the wicking system to water her house plants, when we were away from home each summer. We spent two weeks at grandma's. She knew our daddy would not remember... So she filled a jar with water, put it on the table or other large surface and put the house plants around the jar. She watered them first. Then she used cotton string one end in the water jar...all the way to the bottom. The other end went into the pot plant. I remember coming home to thriving plants and a whole lot less water in the jar. I have so many I would need 3 or 4 jars of water.
My husband is nuts. He wants to drive to Ft. Worth to Tandy Leather. One morning Last week I got up early, got ready and he then said he was afraid to go. This week he has mentioned it each day. Today he said he was going. So I got in the shower. As I came through the hall I suggested he call our son to tell him. He called Had. Not 5 minutes later...the Boss(our son) called. He said no. Do not go. So here I am. I did not want to go anyway.
PIR...Phoenix said to stay at home this weekend...but he did not say why. Then yesterday he said we could see some big earth quakes...the full moon is Sunday the 5th of July.
I enjoy being at home. I always think about my grandma. She was four miles from the little store, never learned to drive. When we got there in the summer and winter...mother would make a list of the things grandma needed and some extra surprises. Then one day we would drive 14 miles to Gatesville...it was a real town! ( It might have had 1,400 residents?) I will never forget when I was about 12, my grandma was bathed, that Coal Black hair braided and neatly wound on her head. It was very long...down past her butt. She had a fresh cotton dress on. It had been starched and ironed. She had a little purse to carry but it was empty...except for a fresh hankie and a bit of change. The thing I was taken aback by were the two rouge circles on her cheeks. She was ready to go. My mother helped blend the bright circles so she did not look like a clown. Thank goodness.
I think I could stay home like she did...but hubby has goitis !
His day is not complete unless he has made at least one trip to town. I don't usually go...but sometimes I feel like I have to.

Linda how old do you think your neighbors are? That is sad that his wife and the other neighbor are sick and/or awaiting test results..

The man who died was 78 and had diabetes. He was the Kaufman county Republican Party Chairman. The other neighbors are mostly younger than Ed and I.

We have two timeshares booked for September 2-5 and 5-12 in Tennessee. Depending on how the virus progresses in those states, we may not go, but as of now we are meeting another couple there. They are also timeshare owners, and we met them at a timeshare in Arkansas 3 years ago and met again in Arkansas last year. We will each have our own unit and can social distance. If numbers go up too high, we may cancel - don't lose anything if we cancel more than 15 days before. And that's 2 months away, so if people do what they are told things should be fine. We also want to go to a state park or two in Texas in the motorhome - we can stay to ourselves that way, too.

That sounds like a good plan. .i was thinking about cruise ships. Or flying.
Our neighbors were thinking their son might be coming in from France. But now France says it is ok to leave..
But you may not get to return. His wife still has another semester to go on her Masters degree. So they decided it is too risky.

We don't usually go anywhere for the 4th. We have the kids and grands over for a picnic and that's about it.

I don't want to fly or cruise for a while yet. Ed wants to go overseas, but a lot of countries won't let Americans in, so that won't happen for a while.

Crikey Linda -- I didn't need to hear that! I'm 78 and diabetic.....
We're staying home. There is no way I will set foot on a plane or cruise ship, or a railroad car, now. I have no problem staying home; there is enough to keep me busy here for two or three lifetimes. DH has a problem staying put. It seems he has an excuse to go to the store or to his friends house every day. However he is canceling his annual trip to Texas this year.
Our July 4th always had a banana split party. The years my husband worked evening or midnight shift we would have them for breakfast. We started going that around 1970 and the kids still keep the tradition.

That sounds like fun Judith.
My grandson is diabetic too, type 1. They say trauma can bring it on and it was within a week of my dad's death. The first one he had ever experienced at 7 yrs old. Some days he has a rough time and just doesn't want to deal with it. Which of course cannot happen.
I look forward to having the grand kids here even though we just picnic but sometimes we play ball or games. The youngest loves to play board games. Maybe this year the blackberries will be ready and we can go picking out back. I am going to go up tomorrow if possible and get some blueberries. Haven't made it up to get anymore. I wish they were closer to us.
I enjoyed the dehydrated ones I did from what was left in the freezer from last year.

C., the young man who is a nurse, told my son it is not pneumonia...it is a problem with blood...that is killing people. Now this is my guess...the breathing difficulty that brings people to the ER may be because of bleeding in the lungs of clots in the lungs.
Perhaps taking aspirin each day is not such a bad idea.my diabetic friend recently told me that her doctor told her to start taking a baby aspirin each day.

I read that one of the blood thinners they give people who've had strokes has been helpful in some cases. It's the same one they prescribed for me. I think I feel good about that. My doctor also told me to take the time release baby aspirin.

That sounds like a good plan Judith. When my sister's new hubby had his stroke, it was because a specialist told him he could not have his blood thinner for several days before a scheduled proceedure. (Which of course is normal!) Problem was that two days into no thinners he developed clots, in his brain. His procedure was to be the following morning. He must have thick blood or something. That seemed very fast. But the doctors took good care of him. He was home within a couple of days and is seemingly ok.
Now for the things done right. They were together. It was 6 pm. They live in Dallas. She immediately called 911 and a neighbor. She needed someone to help the ambulance, with logistics. She could not leave Jim. The ambulance took him to Big Baylor a level one trauma hospital. He was in the
MRI when she arrived and then immediately sent to have the ????? I can't remember what it is called. If one of us had a similar experience, I don't know if the results should be as good. We are about 7 miles from the hospital and the ambulance.

I think I mentioned ordering a new bed. It is being delivered this afternoon/evening. They gave us a time frame of 3-7 so we will have plenty of time to get the old one taken out. My daughter wants it for my granddaughter so I am going to get it cleaned and then we will take it to them. Really hoping we are not disappointed with the new one.
We have a minimum of 30 days to try it and up to 100 to decide. I have not heard of anyone returning them.
.
It is supposed to rain during the time they're supposed to deliver it so I'm praying it is either over or holds off.
Need to drop some things at the thrift and get some other errands done today.

Found out this morning they are canceling many fireworks displays. The ones they aren't canceling are too far away. We will get something to do for the kids. Many set them off long after we go to bed. The dog doesn't hear so well anymore so they don't bother him.

When my husband arrived home yesterday afternoon, he brought his phone and began talking about the virus and mask situation. We began to read his local news feed...about the number of positive cases. hoshospitalizations (8in five months) and the one and only death (an elderly man who actually died of heart disease. He was not even checked for covid until he was dead!)
Did you know this??? When a person feels bad or has a fever, they are checked to see if they are positive. Covid case #1!
They go home to self quarentine.
After 14 days they are rechecked.
Covid case #2!
What if that person really gets sick and his family member takes him to the hospital.
Covid case. #3!
(How many tests will he have in the hospital?) At least one more when he is well. Covid case #4 !
....all from one person!
Every time he is tested...they list it as a NEW covid case!

So do you see what they are doing to Jack the numbers up?
I wondered why our county has almost 200 cases but only/ no one has actually died of it.
In fact most of the folks who had a positive test were between 19 and 29...the bar crowd!

So do not be afraid!

If you are asked to wear a mask...don't keep it on for more than a few minutes. The carbon monoxide is dangerous to your health.

Thieves essential oil blend. It is a blend of five essential oils. We keep some in the car. Before going inside a store, we spray our shoulders and neck. I usually spray my hands and wipe my cheeks and chin. Then I swipe some between my nose and upper lip. It smells good.
I decided that if it was good during the plague it would surely be good today.

July is off to a very hot start and our state is in deep trouble with a huge virus spike. So it is more stay at home and keeping safe for us. I am currently working on the Weather and Tree Badges and having such a fun time! These are two topics of interest to me and I am learning a lot of interesting information. My last requirement of the weather badge is keeping a month long daily log and doing things like identifying the cloud patterns and figuring out what the weather will be from them. It is fun! Plus in Florida, every day doesn't vary much right now so I get a lot of chances to learn the same thing over and over every day!! LOL!! I am great at identifying the Cumulonimbus clouds these days because they boil up everyday out of blue skies about lunch time. Old brains need lots of repetition in order for new stuff to stick!! LOL!! The tree badge is also something I have enjoyed. When I take my morning walk, I put leaves in my pocket and then come home and identify them and tape the leaf on the paper along with the scientific name. This is part of the requirements for the badge and so I am now more certain of the trees in my yard, neighborhood and city park where I walk. We have so many Oak trees and pine trees here that I am glad I finally know the difference because they sort of all look a like. It has been a few years since I worked on badges and this summer seemed like the perfect time to get back into the swing of it. I always loved working on badges when I was a Brownie and Girl Scout and I am not sure why I got out of the habit of doing some at MJF site. Each badge is such a great way to learn new things and increase your knowledge.

Happy July 4th to all of you!! Anyone making homemade ice cream or making something delicious for dessert?

It's just a regular cake mix made with red and blue jello just like a regular poke cake. Then you just add cool whip and top with fresh fruit.
You make a box cake mix as directed for 9x13 pan then you take a skewer and poke 4 rows of 15 holes evenly spaced as much as possible. You make each color of the jello with 3/4 c. Hot water stir till dissolved and add 1/2c. Cold water. Then you pour red in alternate rows and then blue in the empty rows. refrigerate at least 4 hrs. Spread with cool whip and garnish with fruit before serving.
