We’re having 60degrees today with light rain!

Stay warm dry and safe!

Love you all!

Good morning, Vietnam! It is 6:00 AM here and we are expecting low 50s and Drizzle on our bus trip this morning to Sapa, another region of the northern hill tribes. Some of the tribes in this region work with fabric also, but it is not all woven as it was where we visited yesterday.

In our group of 9 travelers and 1 guide, We are the middle ages at 76. There are 2 couples Who are 80, 83, 83, and 84. This is the 46th trip With this company for the 80/84 year old couple. The other people are singles, Who are 68, 65, and 75. It is a very good group. In about 4 or 5 days we will meet up with 6 more people for the main part of this trip.

What an interesting trip.
What do they do when the fabric isn’t woven!
Sounds like a neat trip!
Have a wonderful time!

I think “woven” was the wrong term. I will try to post different pictures along the way. Ed has taken a lot of videos, which I cannot post here, but you can go to my Facebook post and see them.

We are in Sapa now, and here the women do very very intricate embroidery patterns. We visited our guide’s parent’s home, with a large dirt floor, wooden structure. They have three kitchen areas: one for cooking family meals with some of the food cooked over an open pit fire in the middle of this area, one for cooking moonshine, and another for preparing some of the food for their water buffalo and other animals. Here are some of the inside of their home.
Sleeping area

Here is a picture of our guide in the traditional clothing that they wear every day. All women wear a very similar outfit with the intricate embroidery that they have done themselves. The pants and the intricate embroidery at the end of the sleeves they have done themselves.

All girls must learn to be proficient on the very intricate embroidery patterns and start learning at age 4 how to use a needle. Their means of earning money is to sell pieces of their embroidery work to tourists. Here is a picture of some of the village women doing their embroidery outside, because electricity is expensive and the light is better outside. Today it is 50° and misty and they are still working outside.

They carry their work in large container on their back and pull out their beautiful pieces to show you to sell.

All girls must make their own traditional wedding dress, which has many pieces to it. This picture is just a piece of her wedding dress with the intricate embroiderybon her dress she wore for her wedding. The dress is not handed down and they wear it for special occasions. Their wedding dress is a more intricate version of what they wear daily.

Beautiful embroidery. I always thought it was quite warm there but apparently not from how they are dressed and the 50 degrees.

Linda, thank-you for posting these interesting photos and stories of your trip to Vietnam. The embroidery is very beautiful that the women produce.

I remember in school we had the decorated valentine box where we put our valentines that looked like these. The teacher would draw names to see who got to pass them out.

We used to make boxes and then we would line up with our valentines and put them in everyone's boxes. Ours didn't look quite like these but they weren't updated much.

I love the old Valentine's too!! The graphics were so cute and sweet. Judith, I also remember having decorated white bags for our Valentine day exchanges. It was always fun to see them on Valentine's day all full of fun things for everyone.

Thursday I took DH back to the hosp[ital to have the heart valve he received last year repaired. It was leaking as much as the original one was. Today I brought him home. I think modern medicine is amazing to be able to do someheartmrepairs with just an overnight stay.
Apologies for the typos -- my wrist and thumb braces don't allow me to hit the keys like I think I'm doing.
