I'm hosting my very first Thanksgiving this year. I wanted to do something crafty and decided that I needed placemats that were a little "different". This is what I came up with. I'm using pockets from old jeans as a way to hold the silverware and napkins in place at the table. I have several different colors of mats and many different fabric scraps so it should be colorful and functional. (Please excuse my water-spotted silverware.)

Adorable--I use jeans for everything in crafting!
I bet you could get some extra large wool sweaters from the thrift (in fallish colors), felt them in the washer and make another placemat design with them as alternating place settings. You could even make hotplates out of them. I have 3 felted wool squirrels that holds all my hot dishes on Thanskgiving.
