What have yall found is the best way to package your handcrafted soaps? I really love my soap from The Rustic Cottage, and would prefer some brown paper labeling, but im just asking if yall have found anything that works well.

the muslin bags, you just make them yourself with a little cord for drawstring? i was hoping to be able to do recycled stuff such as the brown paper, but...
Jennifer,how awful would it be to use brown paper bags, and just cut them to the right width and length? I like the way yours are stamped, and that would be in expensive, look rustic, and be recycling at the same time. For ingredients, I could just pring them on small adhesive labels like the ones for addressing envelopes, and use them to "tape" the paper shut on the back.

Cristine - thanks so much for your kind words. I'm so glad that you like the soap.
Melt and pour can sweat if not packaged in plastic wrap or in a poly bag. Many people shrink wrap theirs. If I do melt and pour I use saran wrap on mine with a label. Cold process can be wrapped but paper is better so it can "breathe". I use cigar bands but am not entirely happy with them cause they always get loose. Just drives me crazy. I'd really like to do mine in a brown paper wrapper to help keep it clean at the market and shows. I just don't have time to wrap that much soap!
I love the idea of the muslin bags - quick, easy, and cute!! I'm all for that.

When I was selling soap, I used 4 x 6 muslin bags. I had a stamp made with my logo and used it to stamp on the bags then made small hang tags to put on the bags strings with soap name, ingredients, etc. I had wanted something that my customers could reuse and they loved the bags. Maybe a bit more pricey than shrink wrap or kraft boxes, but they were worth it in the long run.

Are you making a melt-and-pour or lye soap? Don't the glycerin soaps need to be packaged in something airtight?

I have used a "cigar band" type wrapper that pretty much covers the soap, except the ends which you can then see the color and smell it. You can use brown paper or card stock or what have you with this. I looked at The Rustic Cottage etsy shop but the soap shown was all unwrapped, so I don't know what they use...good luck! Judy
