Well These were taken the fall of 2004. I am excited about the prospects of planning a "new" garden in our "new" house. The gourds and pumpkins grew out of the compost. Then you see the sunflower against the Nevada sky, which goes on forever! Last would be clematis and a yellow rose. Hope you enjoy.

We had alot of fun last autumn with pumpkins that came up in the compost. It is a bit early yet here, but we do have a sunflower like yours and it is a real blessing. We have some others as well. I was inspired by other photos from the What's Blooming thread. Great work.

Theresa, what town are you in? So many up north were small ghost town types when I lived back there, now towns are popping up that never exsisted? I guess the mines are to blame, but how nice to crave out a retreat of your own, I bet it's wonderful, you'll have to post pics soon.

So beautiful! I think pics of our green can be so encouraging when we're in the brown seasons. I'll often look back at my garden journals just to remind myself that I can accomplish something.

Do you have plans for the gourds? like bird houses or music shakers?

Blessings
Catherine

I could be wrong, but the sunflower looks like one called "Arizona."

Hey alicia,
This is really silly of me , but I don't know, I planted it Summer 2004. I kept really bad records then, My new years resolution is to keep a better garden journel.
I can tell you this, it was part of the martha stewart seed collection sold at kmart at that time. Great sunflowers, mmmmmm I remember them well, just not there names.
Farmgirl Blessings,
Theresa

Hey junebug! cute name! Wow a fellow Nevada girl! You are right about growing in the Dessert in clay soil. I have to amend and add oganics remove and add. We have clay soil and lots of Sun. You know it does limit what I can grow, but I found when I find something beautiful that grows here I plant a ton of it!
I am in Northern Nevada , the sagebrush doesn't have any problems growing here! My quiet town with not even a grocery store ten years ago now has cleared out the sagebrush to put up a parking lot. I heard something funny (not to offend my fellow farmgirl starbuck's drinkers) I am paraphrasing " They put a starbucks in the parking lot of starbucks" Don't get me wrong I am torn about growth, it brings jobs, and recourses , maybe a better library and more community projects from revenue. It seems that it is inevitable. I try to make my home a sancturary from all of it. When you are in my home you feel like maybe you have stepped back into time, ok it'snot there yet but I am working on it. Whew, this is scarry, I kind of went off....sorry.
Well agian, It's nice to be here.
Blessings ,
Theresa

So pretty, you got my planting itch to straching!! Where abouts are you in Nevada? I'm from there, was raised in Las Vegas and have lived in Amargosa Valley, Eureka Springs and Searchlight. It was SO hard to grow anything in the desert, sure don't miss it. Welcome to the forums, aren't they wonderful!
