I am so super thrilled that we got our first egg today! YAAYYY!!! We hatched our first chickens this past Dec and have been running to the coop every day since the 18 week mark and finally this evening while I was closing them up I saw 2!! We had put the wooden eggs in the nesting boxes and there was an extra one in there. I thought the kids had accidently played musical eggs and put two in one box. I had to take them all out to compare sizes, it looks identical to the wooden ones. Then I saw a blue one on the floor of the coop the same size. It's amazing how exciting this is lol! I was taking pictures and having the kids pose with them to send to the grandparents! :) I think we will have to blow it out and save it forever! ;) Seriously...

So happy for you Ginny! It feel like an eternity between the chick day at the post office and that first egg!
Hard to believe that the time will soon come when you are scrambling (no pun intended) to find innovative recipes to help you use up all the extra eggs!

Thanks gals! It is great to get a warm congrats! I get an excited response from about half the people I tell...the other half is just cricket noise, followed by the popular question, "Now, do you have to have a rooster in order for a hen to lay eggs??" Which, btw, was one of my first questions too ;)
