I got a cockatoo a few months ago and since then I've had to stop using all the candles i love because the chemicles in them can be bad for him. I've learned I can have beewax candles, but after buying one and burning it a while it just isn't the same... It doesn't have any smell! I'm really missing my scented candles... Especially now that it's fall and my mom and I have a kinda sorta tradition of burning pumpkin spice candles at this time of year (our favorite flavor). Does anyone know of any beeswax candles that are naturally scented or what I could use to make my own that would be safe for my bird?

We diffuse doterra essential oils because they have no synthetic components, and actually have natural healing properties :)

Just add to a pan of water -
Cinnamon sticks, cloves, alspice berries, orange or lemon peel
Simmer on your stove and your home will be filled the most wonderful smells of Autumn! You can add all of the items mentioned or just add what you have. It helps to add moisture back in the air when we have our furnaces or fireplaces in use. Just add water when it gets low and it will last for a long time. I've also used ground spices in a pinch!

I haven't made them yet but purchased a silicone mini tart mold. I didn't plan on using ground spices, but whole to fit the tarts. Hope this makes sense.:)

That's a good idea. I think that would be ok around him, it's pretty much synthetic fragrances made of chemicals and who knows what that are bad for him. The same stuff that's bad for us, birds are just more susceptible to it. Are they ground up or anything when you put them in, or do you just put them In whole?

Mary,

I recently purchased some beeswax to melt into tarts for my tart warmer. I plan on adding Sweet Annie, Cinnamon, Rosehips, Cloves and Star Anise (all dried) to them. I'm not sure what scents are safe for birds, just a thought :)
