Finally at long last we will have a home of our own! We have been renting for 14 very long years. We have stayed with my parents for a year and have spent the last 4 months care taking a ranch that is being sold.

We rehabilitated my credit score and I qualified solely on a FHA loan! We put in one offer on a place and they countered, and in the mean time a better house for the same price came on the market! Now I have an accepted offer on the second house and we should close within 6 weeks.

I am very excited because our mortgage payment will be less than we have paid in rent since 2005!

Casey- We are actually buying in town! I wish we had some acreage but it is very hard to find acreage in this area with decent land. The is a lot of bentonite and alkaline soils around here. I know some acreage will come up sometime when it is right. At least until then, chicken are allowed in city limits! Yay!

We are supposed to close Monday, May 19th. Only 10 days later than originally estimated. Here's hoping everything settles in place!

So Jealous Alee!! I have a died in the wool city lovin man, who grew up on 20 acres, but doesn't "want to do that kind of work". So he sits in a high stress office, which I can't think is better, but I do love the guy. So I will continue to scrapbook my dream farm and cabin and dream of the day he gets tired of his cube! :)

Thanks ladies!

We are still waiting to close- hopefully sometime this week or early next. They have to send the inspector/appraiser out one more time to make sure all the repairs were done.

First thing we are going to do is build a chicken coop for my 5 hens. They are so funny and are going to love getting a little more free space.

We have free 6 ft privacy fence that we are going to take down and put up at our place which will be amazing and there is even a little apple tree in one corner! The house we will share the alley with is absolutely charming. Our house is kindof a craftsman ranch style. The current owners or someone in the recent past smacked a single car garage on and it sticks out like a sore thumb- so eventually we are going to extend the roof line and fix the shape of the house to be more traditional. Doug has already agreed to help me put in some permanent gardens. Raised beds most likely, and Nora has picked out "Enchanted Forest" for the theme of her room. I can't wait!!

Alee, I'm jumping for joy! Not only is it fabulous that you're getting your own home for keeps, but to think you worked on improving your credit rating enough to buy a house all on your own! That's impressive and inspiring.

When you have some time, I'd love it if you started a new thread (maybe under Nifty Thrifty? Dunno...) about how you managed to get that score up. I know there are books about it, but there's nothing like farm girls around the kitchen table sharing their hard-earned wisdom!

Congrats again. And remember: we WILL need pictures :)
