Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I am glad to be here, and I look forward to making new friends.
I have always wanted to be a farmgirl. I grew up in CT and have always wanted to live in a rural area and have a farm. But the other half (my hubby of 33 years) likes it here. So I dream.
We have three chickens (buff orpingtons)and we live in the house my husband grew up in, that is why he doesn't want to move.  Perhaps one day I can change his mind.
I am a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, this means I take care of injured and orphaned wildlife until they are able to be re-released into the wild (squirrels are my favorite). I work in an office as a receptionist, and I also do geriatric home care. No children of my own, but have a step daughter and six step grandkids.
I have always wanted to learn to sew, I love aprons, especially the kind my grandmother wore. I think they are called H Back. And I like canning aprons. I want to learn canning too!.
Well that is all I have time for right know. I hope there are other CT people here. I look forward to learning and making new friends. |

Thanks for your understanding.... being surrounded with other believers all day in my office job(Christian counseling center).The other forums I belong too are Christian,and I just assumed most people here were too!.
I am off to Lancaster PA to the Sight and Sound theater so see "Joseph".

As I read through my introduction I see that I left out a major, major thing. It should have been the first thing I listed, I am a follower and believer of Jesus Christ. He is my Lord and Savior. |

That sounds like fun, count me in.
I have milked a cow, while staying at B & B IN Vermont, the cows were not in VT, they were in NH right across the CT river. The owners of the B & B , and the dairy farm have since sold both places. I miss going there. I have been to a vintage seed store.... Comstock Ferre in CT. Love that place, have you been there. |

Hi Lisa,
We are a group of ladies from several surrounding towns. We *try* to meet once a month. I am planning on getting us together on a more regular basis. Through the years, we have done fun potlucks and crafts, learned to do different things (for example, we've made terrariums, we've done cross-stitch, made a quilted table runner, gone on field trips like to a vintage heirloom seed store, taken a canning class). Once we all even learned to milk a cow by hand at a farm. Every holiday, we do a homemade Christmas gift swap. It's no pressure, just fun. If you would like to know more, just email me directly. Hi Lisa, and a big WELCOME to MJF!! How wonderful that you are trained to help injured wildlife too. Fascinating!! And remember that if you are not currently destined for a rural setting, just turn your home into an Urban Farm Paradise! Plenty of city dwelling Farmgirls here on the forum are putting up clotheslines, starting small organic gardens, raising a few chickens, growing herbs for cooking and health, and adding a bee hive or two. Hopefully this Summer you can get a chance to do some canning. It is pretty easy to do jelly and such and with U tube and the internet, I bet you can teach yourself and be successful. I love that H-back aprons too and have several from our Farmgirl countrygrace who makes them for sale. Keep us posted on your Summer activities!!

Hi! Shannon, thanks for the welcome....
It is a blessing, I thank God each and every day that He allows me to care for His creation. I have a baby squirrel right now that was in a house fire the next town over from mine earlier this month. She is fine, all healed. I just placed her outside in my pre-release cage this morning. Blaze( that is what I named her) will stay in that cage for 2 weeks until she is acclumatted to being outside. She born in the attic of the house that was on fire. Her siblings died along with Mom. A fireman rescued her, brought her to a waiting ambulance (it was there in case of human need) the EMT administered oxygen until I got there. |

Texdane... I am in Fairfield, I see you are in Sandy Hook, my cousin Billy lives there with his family. Madison, his daughter was a first grader in Sandy Hook Elementary school back in 2012 when that horrible killing took place She and her class was not injured but very traumatized.
