This will be long... ;) I have been away awhile and this will explain most of it. Most know our family was in the throngs Mono since the end of June. We fought for over 2 months until we really felt better. In August my husband's great uncle passed away (mysteriously, his car exploded). His great aunt is in a nursing home. Since then we have made extra effort to visit at least once a week, if not 2-3. See, they had no children. They live 1 hr 15 min from us, 2 hr from MOST family. So with her husband gone who visited EVERY day, we have been trying to make sure she isn't lonely. Many years ago his aunt explained to us that when both of them passed away, the holdings stateside would be sold and divided evenly between the 5 children of Matt's grandparents. His uncle was Swiss, so all holdings over there would be divided over there. Well, sadly, his aunt's wishes have not been honored much. Since no family is up that way, the accountant os the POA, and he is RUSHING to sell it all!!!

The estate (a small portion of their wealth), a 240+ acre farm outside of Louisville KY (IN side) was put up for auction last week. It was heartbreaking. A lifetime of antiques and farm stuff went on Thurs and Sat. We didn't plan to buy much, but the antiques which meant so much to Matt's Aunt were being sold for so little, that Matt won a lot of the furniture because he couldn't stand it. Things that had been in the family over 100 years! It was a wake up call to the CPA when he witnessed Sat auction. When the houses and land went up Sunday (in 15 tracts) we had HIGH hopes and prayers to keep a small piece in the family, and obtain part of our dream at the same time (I should mention, all week, us and Matt's dad, who didn't bid, just wanted to watch and visit, were the only family there). We initially won our tract of 20 acres with a 2 story cabin from the 1800's. Then lost it in a combo round. It was ridiculous the way it was set up. Well, good news is we have a second chance! The CPA said no sale. The farm reached a little over 800k combined and it wasn't enough. We absolutely agree. His Aunt and Uncle worked far too hard to GIVE it all away to strangers who want to develop it.

His Aunt wanted to give us the tract to start with and now that the family is seeing the mess of everything we are praying and feeling confident about obtaining some for our family.Thing is there didn't need to be any rush on things to start with! In all truth, we are hoping for 2 tracts, it would be just under 50 acres. Please pray for us.

My children feel at home here, it isn't what we had "planned" but we feel this may be what God had us holding out for all these years. A couple of nights ago I had a dream (I haven't remembered a deem in a LONG time) that we were telling people "it means the farm in german". See Matt and his family has always said oh "lets go to the farm" :We were up at the farm...", And since his uncle was Swiss, spoke german, and most of Matt's family is German, I guess this is what stuck out as a name fro our farm... der Bauernhof.

I worry about the cabin. It is 162 yrs old. We need to start working on it but afraid to until we have certainty. Matt's aunt always kept it treated for termites but since she went in the nursing ho.e a few years ago it has been neglected. It has some pretty bad damage. They had it tore down and rebuilt with the original logs 15 years ago and it was very costly.

Keep praying. my husband Aunt definitely wanted to stay in the family but the way everything is set up it gets kind of crazy. she knows and we know that that's also where her husband would have wanted my husbands uncle. So we just have to keep praying keep pushing and hoping that we don't push too hard the wrong way.

Keep us posted, Alicia, as I know this is a complicated situation and faced with uncertainty. I am praying things work out in your favor which seems to be what the family would have wanted.

Alicia, the farm and name is so perfect. I pray that you and your family receive the 50 acres. I, too, feel that it should stay in the family. Please keep us updated. God Bless!

Alicia, It is beautiful! Praying in agreement with you. God is always able to work things out and usually it is in a way more than we ever expect. Hopefully you'll be saying Guten morgen sonnenschein from your new home on the farm!
