Hi everyone! My hubby had back surgery about four years ago. However, due to the military waiting so long to send him to a surgeon (they require months of physical therapy before they will take images), he has permanent nerve damage. At younger than 40, my hubby is constantly on a pain patch and narcotics, and has been for years! He also has little to no feeling down his left leg. A few weeks ago he did a trial test run for a spinal cord stimulator... And it worked for decreasing his pain dramatically! So now it is time to have the permanent one implanted... On Friday, the 18th. Basically, imagine a pacemaker with leads... But in this instance, the leads are implanted in his spinal column, and the battery pack into his hip. He will be off work for four weeks afterwards for recovery. During that time, though, he has to go down to Texas to fight the medical board, in order to stay in the Air Force for his last year.

Please pray that his surgery goes well... For steady hands for the surgeons, for relief for my hubby that he might be able to ultimately come off the medications. Please also be in prayer for the rest of our family. Our six older children will be staying with dear friends during the procedure, while Emi and I will be at the hospital with him. Please pray that I am able to keep up with everything after his surgery, especially everything for Christmas! Please pray I will be able to care for him, as well as a colicky infant, and our six other children, without dropping too many of the plates I have spinning in my life!

Thank you all!

~ Shannon

Shannon,
I hope things are going better for your husband. Is the pain gone or reduced yet? A friend of mine had several back surgeries and the last one left her nearly unable to walk. With lots of prayers and determination she is walking with the aid of a walker. She was in tons of pain but is now doing better. I will keep your family in my prayers.

Thank you all for your prayers!!! Hubby is doing alright. The surgery was.... interesting. It was pushed back by 3 to 4 hours, so he didn't get home until almost midnight... and he was discharged with only a single instruction... to not drive for 24 hours! I told him there was no way he was driving for awhile! On Saturday we went to the local CVS to get his prescription filled... and they refused saying they did not "meet the minimum medical requirement." The pharmacist was not nice at all and would not explain the issue. Poor hubby was in intense pain at that point! We went to Walmart then and had them filled there, without any issue! Basically the pharmacist at CVS just did not want to fill them! He is still in a good bit of pain, but looks to be healing fairly well. We go for a followup with the surgeon the 31st.

Definitely praying. Military screwed up my hubby's teeth and back. I don't know what you're going through... but I've been through that much so far.

Praying for all you have going on Shannon. Especially wisdom for the doctors, a successful surgery and also that the Lord would go before him with the medical board and all would go well with that. Also, praying for you and the children during all of this too.
