I spotted this great idea on Pinterest... a tote bag made from old pillow cases..
just cut and hem.

keep it simple or bling it up...
and what a great beginner sewing project for a youngster learning to sew.
after cutting the 2 side pieces,, lay the top (handle) piece on top of each other and make several rows of stitching to make the handle.
Or you could just knot/tie the two ends together.

this is such a kid friendly project! (and middle aged lady too! )

Gracie,
I know a person can make the strap part as long as they wish, but how long are YOU making them?

These look so easy and fun. Thank you for showing how to make one. I am going to look through my pillow cases and see if I have any I can repurpose. They would make for a great bag to carry toys around in. I am thinking of making one as a gift.

Gracie,
Those are looking good! I still haven't looked at my pillowcases for any possibilities. Too much snow and ice to move, still!

ok,, in between other "have to do's" I did a quick tote, well 2...
My trusty fabric guard cat was busy making sure I stayed on track... lol! yes, I get easily distracted! lol!

2 pillow cases, the blue is a standard and the brown is a queen size.

lay length wise, and eye ball it,,, and cut out the handle...
you can fold and machine stitch the raw edge under or just zig zag stitch the raw edge,,, or don't even sew the edge...there is no wrong or right way to make these...
save the scrap piece and make YoYo's to decorate your tote.

for a complete no-sew... just tie the handles together or you can lap them over each other and stitch them together.

Happy Shopping!

K.K., you could buy a sheet at the thrift,,, fold in half, and the sew & cut out these totes...
How lucky are your Joeys to have a mama like you.

that is a great idea ! and so simple.
I was about to make a new bag to carry joeys
in soon and that would be perfect.. got to find
a BIG pillow case -will have 3 of them.. ha
the bag that I have used for so long is just wearing
out this will be a simple replacement.
glad you shared the idea.!
I am running out of space on my jean jacket for badges
and that would also work great to put new ones on!

Denise,, I am always using and washing my totes... and after awhile they just are beyond use, so replacing them w/repurposed pillow cases is a easy peasy idea... and these would make great Library book tote bags too!
I use totes for the P.O. as well (we use a P.O. Box for our mail)... so many ideas.

Grace, that is really cute! What a neat idea. I can make some for my daughter who only uses reusable bags for shopping etc, would be cute for the farmers market.
