It's still too cold to plant anything here and there is snow in the forecast for tomorrow . . .

However, I will be pulling up mulch and metal frames next week to get ready to till and hopefully plant seeds in the middle of May. We usually have decent weather then for that much.

However, 99% of the time we have a late freeze the beginning of June so we don't plant tomato or pepper plants until about June 10th.

These are my seeds . . . waiting for their day to go in the dirt!

Wow, Diana! Sounds like you've been busy! I think you'll get more out of those purple beans than I will out of mine! Part of the problem is the danged deer chewed the tops off of some of my plants!

I have canned 16 pints of beans 12 pints of plum jam that even looks like it will set. Today I picked a LARGE cabbage and am making Kraut. I have about a gallon of beans in a couple days I should have enough to can. I found a french bean cutter and it is really a lot easier. I have very few tomatoes and I have a grandson that eats Salsa on everything. Peppers are doing well finally will roast and freeze as I get them. Cucumbers 4-5 a day and the pickle cucs 6-7 a day I have started two 1 gallon fresh pack jars. The corn was eaten before it could even grow by mice. Onions are looking good. I have started to take zucchini and put it in to unlocked cars in town as I can't even keep up with it.

We've had some big rain the last couple of days so I haven't had to water the garden. Haven't had to drag hoses around to water the lawn either. Kinda nice!

Because of past devastation by squash bugs I haven't planted any squash of any kind or pumpkins for about four years. Our neighbors, however, do plant summer squash and they are keeping us supplied with that right now.
I hope to try squash again sometime.

Pulled a couple yummy carrots! Most are still too small to eat, have lots of kale and picked another batch of beans. I doubt I'll have enough beans to can any this year. I still have some from last year so they'll have to get us through this winter.

Well, I've given up on beets and lettuce. I've planted both twice and they come up, get about an inch tall and then some critter eats them up. And, I noticed a couple evenings ago that, probably deer, had eaten some of the top leaves off of a few of my bean plants. I've NEVER had anything eat bean plants before! I think the plants will be okay if they don't eat anymore!
I'm kinda frustrated with this this year! You plan, spend money, work, weed, water and then things get eaten up! UGH! And, yes, I'm trying a variety of deterrents.

Sounds like wonderful garden goodies, Darlene! I'm hoping for more. Because of our climate and relatively short growing season we don't get to plant some things. I used to be able to grow spinach but the last few summers have been so danged it hot, it bolts and doesn't do well. I love spinach and wish I could get it to grow again! Maybe someday. I might try it again later after some cooler temps to see if I have any success. BUT, we usually have early fall frost, sometimes in late September.

Have harvested curly kale, Italian kale and red kale. Cukes, yellow squash and zucchini. Basil, parsley and lettuce. My peppers are all a mess. I don't know what that's all about. I'm loaded with all kinds of tomatoes. Just waiting for them to ripen. Love my garden!

Have harvested kale, garden salsa peppers and just this morning, picked my first batch of beans.

Beets came up and were about 1 inch tall, then some critter munched them down to nothing. I replanted and the same thing happened, so I'm giving up on beets, at least for now.

Teeny tiny bugs were chewing on my lettuce, so I sprinked Captain Jack Deadbug organic powder on it and the lettuce started to grow again. I've replaced that as well, will sprinkle it sooner.

Never ending battle it seems to keep things alive, watered and not destroyed by pests!

Wow PattiLynn, your garden is beautiful! This year I have a half dozen pots that I am growing mostly salad greens in with a few tomato plants, herbs and a zucchini. The salad greens are going so well, I'm planning to plant some more seeds in the next couple days to keep the salad bowl full.

Now, grow, grow, grow . .

Hi Patti,
I just saw a show on Queen Elizabeth's garden and the gardeners use only garlic powder mixed in water and that is what I will be doing this year. I don't know the amount but I will try. The Queen's garden was beautifull. Anyone try this before?

My garden is in: tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, kale, cauliflower, cukes,, zucchini, yellow squash, parsley, basil, Rosemary, lettuce, thyme. All raised beds and square foot gardening. I have done this for several years and It does really well. Now I'm doing all my flower beds. My hands won't look good until winter and I won't be able to straighten up till then either. LOL. Wouldn't have it any other way though.

Bough my tomato, pepper and eggplant plants today. Will plant them the end of next week, they need to get acclimated to being outside and we need to get past our possible, usual late freeze. Bought our favorites, Early Girl, Fourth of July, red cherry and sun sugar (yellow) cherry tomatoes. Ancho, garden salsa and jalapeno peppers and only one choice for eggplant.

We did container gardening this year. Last night we got a good down pour so I am hoping it did not drown the seeds. They have only been in the pots a few days. I can't wait to see what starts sprouting first. I planted several varieties of squash, blk. eye pea, tomato, carrots. Once, they get about a foot tall I'll transplant them into their own pots.

Diana, I hope the owl statue and herbs keep the mice away.

I'm going to get marigolds and other herbs, garlic and onion to ward off the caterpillar and worms.

Everything I've planted is coming up, except I haven't seen evidence of parsnips yet. I haven't looked this morning!
I have never planted potatoes in my garden but decided yesterday to cut a small one up into four pieces and planted them . . we'll see.

When I was growing up my dad raised acres and acres of potatoes . . . reds, whites and Russets. I've cut, planted, picked, washed, sorted and package THOUSANDS of potatoes! So I certainly know the process, (every piece has to have a least one "eye") but just haven't planted them in my garden.

Going to plant marigolds (by plant, not seed) today here and there in the garden
. They help with bugs and deter deer!

I planted seeds for: carrots, beets, parsnips (first time for parsnips), lettuce, chard, kale, purple snap beans and leeks (by seed and first time for leeks as well). I planted the purple beans last year and really like them. They're just like green beans except purple until you cook them and then they're green, but they sure are easier to pick because you can SEE them!
